Upon first impression of the hotel and its surroundings, I wasn’t sure I wanted to stay however I gave it one night and I’m glad I did. The staff was super helpful and very friendly. They were very accommodating. I was put off by all the homeless and what looked like a sketchy area. However, upon further investigation, I realize there were shops and restaurants within 2 to 3 blocks walking distance a great breakfast place John’s Café right around the corner and everyone was super friendly and helpful. The homeless did not bother me as I walked by. I felt very safe and I’m glad that I gave it a chance. The only downside is the parking you either have to park on the street or use a public parking garage, which will require walking a third of a mile we managed to get by walking everywhere while we stayed the three days at the hotel parking is a problem in the city anyway, and it was much easier to walk or Uber very good for the price for the area

Do yourself a favor and stay a few blocks closer to the Pearl District. This hotel is convenient but it's on the edge of Chinatown. We saw someone injecting drugs in the park across the street from the hotel on our first night here. During our five night stay, house keeping came once to replace our towels and clean our room. We were told they were "busy" and only cleaning rooms for new check in's. Wouldn't book again for the price and lack of amenities. Staff unhelpful.

Gem in Downtown Portland
The Harlow Hotel is a historic hotel renovated in 2019. We stayed in a Signature Double Twin Courtyard Room. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, modern, with a large, well-stocked shower. The room's heating/cooling unit was quiet and easily controlled with an available thermostat, keeping the room warm once we got it heated up to temp. Two robes were provided to wear. The beds were comfortable, and the carpet was clean. The only drawbacks to our stay were 1) the only seating in our rectangular room was a small upholstered bedside bench, 2) the positioning of the beds facing each other with the TV on a side wall allowed viewing only from one bed after pulling the TV out to face one of the beds, and 3) there are homeless in the area, but we always felt safe.

The hotel isn't in the best neighborhood. They have to buzz you into the lobby. Even one of the Lift drivers commented about neighborhood being overrun with homeless. The room seemed as cold as a refrigerator, 62°. Which in an odd way was helpful. Because, there was no refrigerator in the room. It took 5 hours to get the room temp up to 70°. Even after checking with the desk there was nothing to be done to make the room warmer. As a matter of fact. There were none of the typical room staples one would expect, coffee, tea, microwave, Etc. The windows in the room were filthy. However, the room and all public areas of the hotel were very clean. The staff was courteous. The Cafe was nothing but an underwhelming Bagel/Coffee shop. Then for an odd reason the after-tax rack rate finalized at a slightly higher price than the reservation price. No one was able to explain this or willing to adjust the price. Next time we stay in Portland. we will hopefully find a more agreeable $200 room, in a better location.
