TripAdvisor Ratings & Reviews
We stayed at the Grand Lodge #26 over the weekend and enjoyed it a lot. The place is huge and very nice. It was stocked with all the dishes and cooking stuff we needed. Had a ton of games to play and puzzles. The lake view was amazing and we tried the heated pool that wasn't as warm as we expected. But still fun! The hot tub was pretty much occupied by guys with beers so we didn't go in. We figured all that beer had to go somewhere and they were pretty much parked in the hot tub for hours lol. The grill caught on fire the first night due to all the grease accumulated in the grease pan. It was pretty scary but we put it out eventually by putting snow on it. The lightning in the place was fancy but sort of dim. Could use more light. There is a nice trail/cross country ski/snowshoe trail right across the road from the entrance - through some gorgeous snowy woods. The trail around the Collins Lake is not in use in the winter, apparently. So don't count on it. Overall- the place is great and highly recommended.
Review for Collins Lake
Easy check, friendly helpful staff. Great pool, hot tub, perfect location...what else do you want? Parking garage for 2 vehicles, not even the Grand Lodge can claim that. Get a drink at Charlie’s, pizza at Ratskeller
23 Grand Lodge: Hot enough to open a window in a blizzard
23 Grand Lodge Collins Lake Resort We stayed here with another couple and a child. There was plenty of room for all of us. Checkin is at 4 pm, checkout at 11 am. They will set up a lock box if you are arriving after 5 PM. It is pet friendly. You have to go down 1 1/2 flight of stairs to reach the nearest pet potty area. Those have doggie poop bags and receptacles. We had a hard time keeping this unit under 75 degrees even with a blizzard outside. We set the thermostat at 69 and left the fireplaces off. We ended up having to open windows. Only one window had blinds in the master. No blinds in the front window by the door or in the windows looking out the back balcony. The unit is very quiet. I couldn’t hear people upstairs. Not a lot of seating in the main/front TV room. Only one loveseat and two chairs. No TV in the queen bedroom. The closet had a lot of extra pillows. The master closet is walk in and had extra blankets as did the drawers in the kid bedroom. Kid bedroom has a TV, Wii and trundle bed. No cleaning supplies for just wiping a counter down or removing a stain in the carpet. The WiFi logged us out every night. It was annoying to have to log back in. Otherwise it worked ok. Nice kitchen with everything we needed. We brought Tupperware, ziplock bags and foil. The back balcony has a bbq we didn’t use. We couldn’t find the switch for the patio lights. Wood floors were dirty even though we did not wear shoes in the house. Wiping with a paper towel came up dirty. Bring house shoes. The unit comes with pool towels. The pool is in a building across from the lodge. The pool is warm and there is also a hot tub and sauna. They allow for two cars in the parking garage per unit. It seems some abused that because there were no guest spots when we came back after skiing. We complained but the office said they would check it out but we had to leave a car outside overnight. They only provide two keys per unit. They are actual keys vs keycards. Amenities included shampoo, conditioner and soap. I don’t remember seeing lotion or body wash. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Each bathroom had a full size hair dryer. No magnifying mirrors. There is an elevator from the park garage and they have luggage carts to use. The office in the pool house opens around 10:30 am so if you need something earlier, you have to go to the office by the townhomes about 1/4 mile down the road. With the VIP card you can get discounts on ski tickets and more if you buy at the office. It was also very convenient to have the shuttle stop right there. It’s very close to Ski Bowl West but not ski-in. You have to cross Hwy 26.
Loved our room #29
We stayed at the Grand Lodge on the 3rd floor #29. We had stayed in the Chalet prior and can say we loved the Grand Lodge. The whole layout was more spacious loved the big bathrooms. The big moose on the wall was a little big but the chicken was funny. The kitchen was well equipped that made it much easier to cook. They did say the unit had a blender but unfortunately it didn't they did look for one but they could not get us one. On our previous stay we brought a lot of kitchen stuff this time we took a chance wish we would have packed our blender. The view from the balcony was beautiful and the balcony was very spacious loved that it has a grill. We could not hear anyone it was so quite and peaceful even being a Friday, Saturday night we will definitely book the Grand Lodge again. The parking under garage was nice plent of space and they even has a few guest spaces that was really nice since we had two cars and only ond parking spot. We did not use the pool or hottub but they did look nice. Saturday night we walked in to town lots of night life to take advantage of bars and restaurants and a small store that had a liquor shop as well.
Really nice units
These are really nice units; Only down side LOTS of steps. Hopefully you are an outdoor enthusiast and have good knees. I think units vary by ownership; don't know if all were are as well stocked; kind of doubt it.
