Change is Good
We've been coming to the Cannery Pier since it opened back in the early 2000s. We heard talks by Mr. Jacobs, the founder, and we enjoyed absolutely everything. Not to mention, Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin stayed there and attended a lecture Mr. Jacobs offered on The Finns. I'm glad I missed it or my head would have exploded, but Plant mentioned in the Portland concert he gave shortly after his stay. (He stayed in the Pilot House room.) The changes when it was sold, after Mr. Jacobs' death, startled us at first because we are ancient. But we love it still. Excellent staff, beautifully decorated - especially those very cool sinks. The kitchen staff was awesome. I can't remember the Omelet Lady's name, but she was fabulous. Everyone was. Night Desk Cindy was wonderful, and cured my migraine with our distracting chat. All the desk staff were great. Beautiful Make-Up Lady (I loved her makeup), Perfect Skin Lady, and everyone was friendly, professional, and endured my chatter and questions perfectly. Thanks to everyone! Clearly, the anti-pigeon spikes do not work, but I enjoyed the dramas on our balcony. Two actually were sitting where the spikes are placed. I loved it, but I do know they can make a bit of a mess. I didn't stop me from standing outside on the balcony. There was much drama fighting for rights to sit on an electrical box. There was also some vigorous pigeon activity...making little pigeons. (feel free to edit that out, if you need.) I saw it as part of the experience. Also! Kudos to the Maintenance Man who had to show us how to work the shower. (Did I mention we are ancient?) I had a Lucille Ball moment when I accidentally turned on the side spray, and the top one hit me squarely in the face. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. The two bartenders were attentive, and I loved chatting with them. They really knew their drinks. Although we are wine drinkers, one of the people at a table told us, "She makes an incredible old-fashioned!" That was on Sunday, Dec 3rd. Thanks for a wonderful and restorative trip

Excellent Location
Great location. Awesome bridge view. We enjoyed watching big ships going in and out of the Columbia River. Staff service was excellent. Taking a bath in a huge tub was heavenly. Very dog friendly. We just wish the bed had better mattress for back support.

Watch out this place is addictive
The location is beyond compare, room is set over the Columbia River 600’ under the Astoria~Megler Bridge at 4.1 miles long. The atmosphere of room & surroundings with ships you can almost reach out and touch, passing by daily/nightly. Room and appointments are stellar; clawfoot tubs, cushy robes & slippers, fireplace, window seat with binoculars overlooking river…Wow! The staff were so friendly helpful happy and professional. The grassy area at entrance to parking lot of hotel, was so great for those late night doggy-relief calls. This is a stay that’ll call your name for replication!
