Unbeatable location and overall lodging experience
Do not hesitate to book your stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel. Located at the end of the pier, every room has an unbeatable balcony over the water to watch huge cargo ships from around the world be guided by river pilots into the Columbia. Excellent restaurant at the end of the pier. Historical cannery site. Great staff and breakfast included.

The Example of a Great Hotel
If one was to be a student of the hospitality industry, this is one boutique hotel to study. We live in Portland (60 miles) yet don't stay much at the beautiful Oregon coast, because of a lot of mildew, corrosion, fishy smell, wear and tear, at a lot of hotels up and down the coast. Everything is immaculate here and appears like new. The room was spotlessly clean and we had a view of the River, we could see large ships passing by several times a day. The town of Astoria, which is more than 200 years old and the oldest west of St. Louis, is an example of local renaissance changing from primarily fishing/seafood processing to hospitality. Lots of eateries and entertainment. There's a perfectly restored '62 Rambler at the front door, if you go to the hotel, ask to be driven somewhere in it. Alternately, grab one of the hotel bicycles and ride into the heart of town (1 mi). We'll return soon.

The Best in Astoria
Truly a delightful experience. We stayed at the Cannery Pier Hotel for a quick "near to home" getaway for our Anniversary. A perfect way to enjoy the nearby state parks and downtown Astoria while indulging in some luxury. The location alone is worth the price: we felt like we were on a cruise ship - our room was out over the water. Watching the ships with the provided binoculars was mesmerizing - as was sea-bird spotting. It was quiet, too. The room was beautifully appointed - very thoughtfully laid out. A temperature-controlled fireplace kept us just right while provide a delightful ambience. The bed and pillows were lush and very comfortable (you may want to ask for an extra blanket). And oh, the bathroom! Roomy shower, fabulous free-standing tub - all with a view (only wish there was a little more counter space around the sink). Everything was spotless. We only enjoyed an evening cocktail and breakfast in the public area - very nice with very friendly staff. We didn't take advantage of the free car service into town, the spa, the bikes, the hot tub and sauna but certainly will do so during our next stay.

Relaxing and Elegant, Just Shy of Perfect
This is a lovely property with a fantastic location, beautiful views, and excellent amenities. The staff were consistently helpful and friendly, and overall the experience felt relaxing and luxurious. The food, for the most part, was very good, and the atmosphere throughout the hotel and spa was calm and welcoming. My rating is four stars primarily because, given the price point of this luxury property, a few details fell short of expectations. The towels felt a bit rough and inexpensive, and the spa could elevate its experience by using higher-end products. Additionally, while the food was enjoyable, the portions leaned more toward small plates than full meals. That said, this remains a beautiful destination worth visiting — with just a few refinements, it could easily be a true five-star experience.
