Weekend ruined
Great place if you don’t want to sleep at night. Sea lions barked LOUD and didn’t let up all night long. Booked two nights. Left after one night. Notice the refund policy says if you cancel w less than 7 days notice you’ll be charged one night’s stay. Weekend ruined.

Unique is definitely the right word...
Location: This is located right on the riverfront...actually built on a pier. Great views of the bay. Atmosphere: It is definitely a boutique hotel. The reservations desk, bar and restaurant are situated in an area about the size of a studio apartment. It's an industrial-type decor. Rooms: These are located on either the riverview or "trolley" side. They are not on the "spacious" side but are well-apportioned for the amount of room you get. Bathroom has a barn-door access, so if you require complete privacy when you are in there, it is compromised. Single sink with very limited counter space...your best bet would be to invest in a hanging toiletry bag. The shower is spacious; you could fit a full size tub inside of it. Water pressure is decent but hot water is on the slower side. Boutique-branded pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and body wash are supplied. The remainder of the room has a king bed and is rather comfortable. You are also given your choice of pillow: firmer or soft. The TV looks to be about 45" or so and is wall-mounted directly across from the bed. There is a desk and a small table with 2 chairs. Also provided is a hot-water kettle that will boil water in about 2 minutes (I gotta get one of these!), as well as do-it-yourself choices of teas and coffee. The room was clean. Noise level: For about 50 weeks out of the year, it would be serene. But for about 2 weeks (usually December), the sea lions are making their migration south. The males come to roost RIGHT UNDER THE HOTEL...the females are already in CA. They will howl and bark 24 hours straight, probably because there are no females to keep them quiet. It would be nice if they could carry a tune, but the hotel does supply earplugs. The area: We stayed 2 nights and Astoria is chock-full of unique places to dine and drink. If you are looking for McDonald's or the like, it's a bit of a hike.

Not as advertised
Such an aesthetically beautiful hotel, and amazing location and views. Very high end hip and contemporary. It held such promise. I was greeted by guy wearing a stained, stretched out Disney T-shirt & shorts who spoke to me while chewing a mouthful of food (seriously) and demanded to know if I needed valet parking and even though I said no, it was like he didn’t believe me. He mentioned valet like 4 times as if he didn’t hear me. Sorry to sound shallow but the appearance and attitude of this guy was so incongruent with the brand & look of the hotel it was jarring. Unprofessional and sloppy. I asked for ice and was told it was at the other end of the building which was fine, but there was no bucket, no container and when I (super politely) asked for one I was given a cardboard to-go container by the very harried and distracted bar staff while Mr. Stained Disney T-Shirt sat behind the welcome desk scrolling his phone. After dinner downtown I came back hoping to have a relaxed quiet evening & early bedtime (it was a Thursday) but instead was treated to listening to little kids shrieking & playing in the next room & a heavy cloud of pot smoke wafting into my room well onto midnight. It felt like a Motel 6 at a freeway truck stop. Never again.

Beautiful Room 39, but Room 7 was a nightmare
I stayed here for three nights—two in Room 39 and one in Room 7. The difference was night and day. Room 39 was lovely: comfortable and exactly what I expected for the price. Room 7, however, was miserable. It was unbearably hot, even though it was only 55 degrees outside. The so-called swamp cooler was just a fan blowing over ice water and provided no relief. Despite opening both doors and the window, running the swamp cooler, and using two fans (including one I brought from home), the room stayed at 75 degrees. I barely slept. I overheard another guest complaining of the same problem the night before, and the travelers in the room next to mine also mentioned it—so this isn’t an isolated issue. When I raised the concern, the manager brushed it off by saying the room would cool once the sun went down. It didn’t. Given the price of the room, I expected far better. Lighter bedding, true AC (or a real swamp cooler), and staff acknowledgment of the issue would go a long way. I left as soon as the front desk opened at 7 a.m. and would not stay in that room—or any like it—again.

Dirty rooms and inattentive management
We spent $3000 USD for two rooms for three nights, assuming it was a high-end hotel. On arrival, we were amazed to see that the rooms were filthy and had not been properly cleaned in a long time, if ever. I sent pictures of thick dirt under furniture and bed to management. The windows and other surfaces were dusty and full of spider webs. Management did zero. They offered to bring us clean towels and told us to put the tidy up note on our door. We did this from 9 to 4 each day, but no one showed up. It appears that the cleaners are lacking the necessary equipment, and management should be replaced.
