Great experience, awesome people, beautiful property
Can't say enough good things about the Wilson Ranch and family! If you are near the Fossil, OR area, this place is a true hidden gem. Kara and Brian are the real deal. Their love for the land and hospitality make this place special.
This is THE place to stay if visiting Fossil and/or the John Day River area. The Wilsons/Anglins are delightful people—so welcoming! We were treated to delicious breakfasts, cozy beds, and great conversations.
We had a great time staying on this authentic family homestead. Our room was as Grandma would have remembered but with the addition of a very necessary air conditioning unit. At night, however, we opened the window for the cool silent night air. A copious breakfast was served at a huge table with members of the family joining the international guests. Patience and planning are required as there are only two bathrooms shared between several rooms. The ranch is situated in a sheltered valley not far from the small town of Fossil, where you can indeed hunt for fossils. Make sure you visit the Painted Hills!
Great B & B on a ranch
We were only able to stay one night, but we throughly enjoyed it. The breakfast was a highlight, not only for the excellent food, but for the conversations with the other guests and our host, Kara. The rooms themselves are basic, but comfortable. Be aware that the upstairs rooms have shared bathrooms and both bathrooms are downstairs. It wasn't a problem for us, but might be for some. There is a full well-stocked kitchen in a building across the parking lot from the main house for those who want to cook (we did!). Also a refrigerator for guest use. We went for a walk at dusk and saw numerous elk and deer. It was so peaceful and quiet. At night the stars were fantastic. I'd love to stay again and have more time.
Great short family trip
My 4th time at the ranch. We had a great time as always. We celebrated my daughter's 10th birthday there. Kids enjoyed horseback riding, fossil hunting and playing with other kids that were at B & B (Brian did make sure everyone behaved at the breakfast table). My husband and I enjoyed quiet evenings, star gazing and wonderful conversations with other guests at breakfast. Brian, Kara and staff were awesome as usual. Their hospitality, generosity and never-ending hard work is always an inspiration to us city folk.
