Experience the 'Alps of Oregon' first-hand in the steepest vertical gondola ride in North America. Open May – September. Wallowa Lake Tramway also operates during the winter months under special occasions! In just under 15 minutes you are taken on a 3700-foot ascent to the summit of Mt. Howard where you'll be treated to awe-inspiring views of the Wallowa Valley including the communities of Joseph, Enterprise, Lostine and Wallowa. Editor's Note: Take your mountain bike up the gondola for breathtaking views and one heck of a downhill ride down pine-covered hills, glacial moraines, and along gravel and paved roads (as weather permits). Also, Grab some grub and a pint of Terminal Gravity at the Summit Grill, “the Northwest’s highest restaurant.” The alpine patio offers beautiful views overlooking Wallowa Lake and the peaks of the Wallowa Mountains.

Highlight of our trip
The whole experience was wonderful! Bought tickets online. No line to board the tram. The ride up and views were so beautiful. Trails at the top for different levels of hiker. Even a restaurant at the top. It helped that we had perfect weather. It was the highlight of our trip.

Amazing views… do it!
Best tram ride ever! Views amazing on way up, even better when on top! Took hike around top of Mt Howard, ate lunch on top, great time. Highly recommend. Take a jacket. 10-15 degrees cooler on top.

An experience that never disappoints.
From checking in with our tickets, through the smooth ride up, lunch at the Grill on top, absolutely gorgeous views & well-kept trails, running into gracious people to take our pictures, to the smooth ride back down was fabulous. Our 30-year-old son does not like heights, but he said he would ride up, hike & ride down and he was glad he did. He absolutely loved every minute of it. HUGE THANK YOU to the staff from the bottom all the way to the top :-)

Well worth it
Costs $50, which seems expensive until you realize that your other option to get to the top is to drive an hour to the McCulley trailhead and hike 3 hours straight up a hill. I'd say my time is worth more than $12.50/hour. Views on the way up and from the top are amazing and there's plenty of trails to keep you occupied for as much time as you've got. Not a lot of shade at the top, so bring sunscreen.
