Set between the ocean and the bay, Nehalem Bay State Park is situated on a 4-mile sand spit. The campground sits among shore pines, just a sand dune away from the beach.
A forested 1.8 mile long bike path provides a breathtaking view of the bay. You may see deer and elk grazing and a variety of birds. Kayaking, crabbing, fishing and clamming are popular activities.

Luckily for us, this place is less than an hour drive from our home, but it was an awesome place for just a nice getaway. The facility was great and we even earmarked it for a later visit to bring friends who could stay in the yurts while we were in an RV. There was wildlife viewing and lots of hiking trails along the forest and on the beach.
We stayed in a yurt at Nehalem Bay State Park in June 2023. It was awesome! They effectively combined the comfort of a cabin and the close to nature that a tent has. The nearby bathhouses were clean and pleasant enough for me. We visited the beach during sunset and it was beautiful. Best part? You can hear the ocean waves in the campground, it was very relaxing and I slept comfortable. Only “thorn” I can name is that the yurts are too close to each other, so I would recommend picking one that is surrounded by trees, or to pick the isolated yurts.
Honestly we ended up here looking for a bathroom and was pleasantly surprised. We got to see a black tail deer. He stayed around for awhile.
This has become one of our favorite state parks on the Oregon Coast. Easy Nice walk to the beach. Lots of bike trails. Close to Manzanita for services. Treed sites, a bit close to each other. Only problem was that I found the women's showers to be very dirty.
This park is very very crowded. Camp sites feel like they are on top of each other. It is a good park for families and large groups. We just didn't like the vibe which had more to do with an obnoxious large group of campers, than the actual campground.
