The cottage is well appointed with all of the necessary comfort features. Full kitchen, full bath, large front room, dining area, gorgeous garden, many movies and books to select from for your relaxing time. A short 15 minute drive to the painted hills.

The location was stunning,
The location was stunning, and the cottage was ideal in many respects. Very low key and simple to check in, which is liked. Everyone in the town also seemed to be quite amiable. Also roaming the area are adorable turkeys and quail.

Excellent place to stay!!
The cottages are adorable, warm and cozy. Everything you need is there. The landlady is charming, and the artwork in the store worth a look. Local restaurant in town has tasty food. Dinner just out of town has good food as well, and does breakfast. Espresso stand in town: even a Tesla charging station and a gas pump. The rock store and Museum across the street from the dinner are really worth a look. Everyone is friendly. We had an amazing time. Stayed three days and saw the Painted Hills, the Clarno Site, and the Paleontology center. Hiked for hours staring at gorgeous vistas you can't see anywhere else. A geologists dream trip!

3-Day Trip to John Day National Monument
My wife and I spent three days in the Hollyhock House in mid-August 2021. We've stayed in many short term / vacation rentals, and Painted Hills Vacation Cottages checked off all the right boxes...great location, super clean, relaxing, had everything (& I mean everything...this is one area most vacation rentals fall short on) we needed in the kitchen and throughout the rest of the home. We immediately felt comfortable and relaxed. On top of all that, the artistic presentation of the cottages and the grounds was fun and joyful. Check in and check out were easy, as was parking, and communication with Barbara was very good. We're almost always at least a little let down in some aspect of a vacation rental, but not this time. We will happily come back for a return stay the next time we're traveling to eastern Oregon.

Quiet and Sublime
My wife and I just spent two days here and had a marvelous time. We are native Oregonians but had never been to the Painted Hills or the JD Fossil Beds. We heard about this place in the AAA magazine. It is an oasis. Located on Piety Hill above Tiger Town, it is enchanting. The gardens are surprising. The quiet is extraordinary. Our cottage was well supplied (even had free eggs in the fridge!). It was Funky with a capital F, and that is a good thing. We explored the subunits of the National Monument, dined each night at the Tiger Town Brewery (excellent food and beer), and slowed down. The WiFi is good (not fast). There is no phone service (which is actually WONDERFUL). Highly recommend this place. Thanks Barbara, Aruna, Laura.
