Special Lodge with Amazing Lakefront View
Our stay at the Lodge was a highpoint of our 10 week trip. Accomodations are spacious, well appointed, comfortable with a wonderful lodge atmosphere. The wood accents, art work and lightning fixtures add to the ambience. Staff is friendly and professional. Lake view is terrific and there are free kayaks and paddleboards to use in additon to the indoor pool and exercise room. We will return. There was one surprsing downside on our last evening. We called the front desk to report that the toilet was running (it was fixed earlier in our stay). Staff said they would be up to check it but never showed. Since we were leaving early the next morning we decided not to call again for help. But we were surprised the request was not followed up on.

Horrific!! Nothing like they advertise!
This place was disgusting!!!!! They must have amazing filters on their cameras because the room looked nothing like what their website showed! When we walked into the room, there was a smell that almost made me sick. It was a combination of Lysol spray and vomit. Just nasty!! One of the things I always do when I check into a room is check the heating and cooling systems to make sure they work and there are no hiccups, because I don't want to find out it's not working at midnight. So I turned on the heater and a nasty smell came out, that I don't know how to describe. This is up by a lake in the mountains and it can get pretty cold at night, so this was a problem. We looked around some more and found a tiny air conditioner precariously "mounted" in the window. When you looked inside it, it appeared to have mold on the back side of it. Yuck! Then we saw all the cobwebs in the corners with dead bugs in them and it was at this point that I called the manager, which by the way isn't on site at all, they are a block or so down the road. I don't know if that's where they live or what, but the office was locked at 3:30 in the afternoon when we got there. I had to call a number that was on my paperwork and wait for someone to come running down the street to check us in. But, I digress. So I called them to complain about the rooms. We were traveling with another couple and their room was just as bad as ours. The other woman traveling with us said she couldn't sleep in there because of the smell. The manager that I talked with basically said that there was nothing she would do for us. She didn't say there was nothing she could do, she specifically said that there was nothing she would do for us. At that point I told her that we would not be staying and that if she didn't want to refund our money, I would let my credit card company handle it, they will credit my account. And I hung up. As we were loading up our car getting ready to leave, the same guy that came running down earlier came back with a young lady. They asked what was wrong with the rooms, and we told him again about the smells and the cobwebs and the bugs. Then I mentioned that the rooms look nothing like the photos on their website and he asked what picture we were talking about. We said the ones on Expedia where we booked the room. He then said, I kid you not, he said, "Oh, those pictures were from 3 years ago, before the fires. We lost 12 cabins in the fire." Well, those are the picture that were on the website, advertising your property and they were absolutely nothing like what you put us into. Everything about the online advertising that we saw led us to believe that these were remodeled after the fires and that it was a "well equipped lodge, offers quiet community setting, promoting evening gatherings around the campfire". This dump is just yards from the busy highway 22. The only place for a fire was between our building and another building about 15 feet away. The "fire pit" was a rusty ring with 4 old plastic lawn chairs. I looked again at the pictures their website has online and their description of "Cozy, Well-Equipped Hotel Rooms." Their web page states, "We offer individually unique rooms with luxurious accommodations to meet all of your vacation needs." The only thing unique about them was how filthy and disgusting they were. From their website, "Rooms at the Lodge are fully equipped with kitchenettes." We have traveled pretty extensively and have had many rooms with kitchenettes. Never, ever have we had a kitchenette that didn't have one piece of silverware, no plates, not glasses. Nothing!!! Every single cabinet was completely empty, except for a nice layer of dust. Their idea of "Built in air conditioning." is a tiny window unit that looked like it could fall out at any moment. And their picture of that room did not show the rickety A/C unit in the window. Again from their website, "We encourage our guests to unplug and be present. Our community setting promotes front porch sitting and evening gatherings around the campfire." Their idea of front porch sitting is a couple of filthy picnic tables facing the highway just yards away. I bet that is really magical! Our friends room was supposed to have a kitchenette in it also. What they got was a wooden shelf with a tiny microwave oven on it and a refrigerator that would have trouble holding a full case of beer. Their website is false advertising at the least!! I can't see how it is legal. Classic bate and switch.

Highly Recommend
Stayed a week training USFS. Owners are excellent hosts and very gracious. Stayed in room 1 which has a kitchen, bring your own cookware. Very cozy room not large but enough for a couple. The attached diner (wed-sun) serves excellent food and a store is next door which carries a large variety from food to fishing, NY was outstanding and more than enough for 1. Highly recommend. Hopefully my work sends me back next year. THANK YOU FOR A GREAT WEEK Jim

Just trying to rebuild from the fire that devastated us all.
They have horrible customer service. I don’t think I will be using them anymore. We had rented a room for some workers to come up and help us rebuild from the fire. Due to the snow the workers couldn’t make it anymore. I called them and changed the date to the following weekend and the workers still weren’t able to come so I called them with over a weeks notice and told them I would like to cancel the room since I didn’t know the next time the workers could make it up due the snow. The lady yelled at me telling me I couldn’t do that, and she won’t be refunding my money. I told her I don’t care she can charge us for the room and charge another family and double up on profit. The fact is that the workers won’t be checking in. She still decided to yell at me and talk about how much of a horrible person I was (even though I told her to keep the money) she then decided to hang up on me. So looks like they will be double profiting this weekend. Nice character people. Good job! We are just residents trying to rebuild from the horrible fire that effected both of us. It’s not our fault that the work crew couldn’t come up due to the snow, and that they said they won’t be rescheduling with us until the snow was cleared. I gave you guys a weeks notice and you still kept our money. I hope karma catches up to you. So sad to do this to fellow Detroiters.

Hoping they are safe
My children and I were supposed to stay at The Lodge this week for a getaway in nature before the start of school in Portland. There were a couple of wildfires around 20 miles from the lodge that had been burning for weeks, but nothing too out of the ordinary. We arrived at Detroit Lake Monday and things started deteriorating that afternoon. We decided to return home late afternoon, once we saw how thick the smoke was getting and how dangerous the conditions seemed. So we never actually slept at the Lodge. The owners were incredibly nice about this, even though at the time they didn't think the situation was going to be too dangerous. They offered to give us a refund even though we had already checked in and actually spent some time in the room. Instead, I said I wanted to just consider it a pre-payment on a future stay as we wanted to come back to the area when things were clear. And it's very fortunate that we decided to leave. As I expect many reading are aware - the area was evacuated that night and, as of this writing, wildfires are raging throughout Oregon with the largest in the vicinity of Detroit. In fact, I don't know the fate of the Lodge itself. But I wanted to put in this positive review anyway. If the Lodge and area survive the fires, they will need your business to recover, and the owners should know that their kindness is appreciated. We're not praying people, but we are sincerely hoping for their safety and for the safety of everyone in our beautiful state. (The room, by the way, while small, was clean and the bathroom immaculate and looked new. Very close to the lake. All COVID procedures appeared to be followed to a T.)
