My wife and I stayed a week in Salem to visit with family. On a previous visit we booked one of the chain hotels off of I-5 on the East side of town, but this time we wanted to be closer to downtown. The Salem Hotel was a perfect fit for our needs with its location on Commercial Avenue. It also proved to be a very hospitable and comfortable hotel. We liked that it is a beautifully renovated hotel, with many classy touches such as the “Hotel Salem” plaques on each room door. The front desk looks directly out the entrance with friendly, helpful staff watching and greeting guests around the clock. Not being a fan of elevators, I appreciated that the stairs were inviting and easy to locate. Breakfasts with offerings to suit almost every taste are served in a dining room. Special recognition must be given to the use of real china and cutlery, although they do add to the din during busy times. We had to check out a day earlier than we intended and were grateful that the hotel did not punish us for changing our reservation. By the same token, the hotel does not pad its rates with bogus fees that I noticed were featured at the chain hotel we had previously stayed at. We look forward to staying again at the Hotel Salem when we next return.

This place is a gem! We loved it, great staff, very good breakfast, excellent service! Less expensive than other hotels in the city, but high quality.

Warm welcome and a comfy room
The hotel was on a busy street, but once you entered, that all went away. We were warmly welcomed, the room was clean and comfortable. Great variety at breakfast and yummy cookies in the evening. Thank you for having GOOD coffee in the room! A small gym but definitely was able to utilize it. We would definitely return if we are in Salem again.

Hotel is dated but clean. When we arrived to our room it was 75 degrees. Had to pop circuit in wall unit to operate AC. Were we ever sorry! A horrific smell emanated and we urgently called the desk to move rooms. We were told that was usual and to open the window to disperse. Mattress was broken down on sides. Otherwise good, including breakfast buffet.
