Roomy, comfortable, friendly
Business trip to Salem in mid-January. I arrived early afternoon before check in time. "Any chance I could check in early?" the desk person clicked a few keys, then "no problem... is the 5th floor okay?" that set the tone for the entire visit. Everything was "no problem," "you bet" or some other pleasant response. Everyone in the hotel (some kind of land/ water use convention) was also in a good mood (what were they serving?), breakfast was tasty, hot and fresh (and included in the room fee), the room was large, towels were soft, water was hot. What's not to like here?
Classy Hotel - Great for Business
Was at The Grand for a couple of weeks in January 2018, and really enjoyed my stay there. It is conveniently adjoined to the convention center with lots of amenities. The staff was friendly and took excellent care of our group. The breakfast was nice, and I felt safe that whole time that I was at the hotel. Parking was convenient, and they have a decent workout room, but the pool looks a little dated. Casandra at the Front Desk was very pleasant and we had some very productive meetings. I am looking forward to bringing my wife back to visit the vineyards in the area.
Great for Business Travel
I spend quite a bit of time in Salem, OR on business with the state of Oregon. The Grand Hotel in Salem is an excellent place to stay. The staff is very friendly, helpful and courteous. Usually when I check-in, I'm greeted in a way that communicates that I am a valued repeat customer. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. I spend a lot of time on the road, so it is refreshing to stay at a hotel that understands the nuance of business travelers...e.g. having enough convenient places to plug in electronic devices. There is a nice workout room conveniently available, and it has a good combination of free weights (dumb bells), weight machine, treadmill, elliptical and bicycles. The free breakfast bugget in the morning has a good selection of standard breakfast items ranging from eggs, sausage, fruit, and cereals etc. My favorite part is the restaurant Bentley's Grill. I usually stick close to the hotel at night so it's a great place to unwind with an adult beverage. Great wine selection and tremendous food. I highly recommend this for business travelers who are interested in accommodations that are a cut above great. 5 stars out of 5. I'll be back for sure.
Not very good
Very noisy! Street noise was terrible. Walls and ceilings are paper thin! I could hear my neighbors every time they sneezed! Cooling/heating unit insufficiency to cool/heat room. Restaurant is over priced for the quality of food and the amenities (gym and breakfast) are opened at inconvenient times. Best bet is to go with another hotel.
Perfect for a couple's special occasion
My husband and I stayed here New Year's Eve and were pleased it wasn't crowded or noisy. We had driven from a nearby town, seen a movie and wanted to settle in for the evening. The gracious Grand Hotel fit the bill in every aspect. The friendly receptionist thought the restaurant was fully booked and gave us a helpful list of nice places open and serving dinner, but encouraged us to stop by Bentley's and check. Fortunately, they did have a later opening, which was fine since we were staying in the hotel. Our table for two near the fire pit and the food were wonderful. The spacious room with sofa area was lovely, comfortable, and despite families with small children in nearby rooms, completely quiet. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast as well. The convenience of not having to go out on a chilly night and the elegant ambience made for a memorable occasion--much better than watching the ball drop from the living room sofa (if we aren't already sound asleep). We may well make this our special tradition from now on.
