The lobby is nice, the rooms are a bit dated.
The lobby is nice and the hotel has an underground parking garage with easy access. The hotel in centrally located for any adventure in Salem. From the hotel I found it to be a good 20-25mins to some of the finer winieres in the region. Overall I would recommend the hotel.
Best place in Salem to hold an event and stay!
Top notch facilities for convention center and hotel. I stay at the Grand several times a year for conferences and we host an annual conference ourselves. I always recieve a warm welcome and no request is too big or small. Bentley's restuarant has a great atmosphere, perfect for dinner and a relaxing drink with friends and colleagues. Probably the best complimentary breakfast you can get in Salem. Rooms are clean, spacious and comfy. The hotel staff are amazingly friendly and accommodating. I honestly would not stay anywhere else!
I am a sucker for good service!
The rooms are a 4 star but the service is 6 stars! Thats whay the 5 star rate! Nice place and free parking with everhyone on the same page! Ev ery single employee bids you a big hello and asks if all is good. Whether its a housekeeper or maintenance person to the big cheese (manager). I like that! Nice digs for an overnight and great folks! That wins every time!
Perfect location if Salem, or the surrounding area, is your destination. Easy walk to a number of restaurants and the riverfront. The common area is very attractive and the front desk staff are quite helpful. Breakfast is excellent! At first I was surprised to walk into a conference room where a cafeteria style breakfast buffet was set up, but to my great surprise the food was excellent. The bacon was some of the best I've ever had when traveling. The bread's could be a bit improved, but who needs all those carbs anyways. The room was a good size, but the furniture dated and there was a musty smell. All is all a satisfactory stay.
“Grand” experience is all looks and no personality
BIG disappointment here, for wedding preparation and first night together. The wedding party used the Presidential Suite the night before the wedding and we (bride and groom) stayed the next night. The room was “all fancy” but then didn’t even have hooks or anything to hang the dresses on, other than a tiny closet in the bathroom. We ended up using a picture frame. Decor was made to look high end but then didn’t provide the basics like decent water pressure in the shower or soft towels. I had flowers delivered the day before the wedding to my maid-of-honor but the hotel staff never delivered them to the room. When I called, they denied receiving them but further inquiry the next day found the flowers in the back room with staff. Finally, upon checkout they completely flubbed the bill which was separated between parties, charging the wrong expenses to the wrong guest and then mixing it up badly when they tried to make corrections. Our advice, skip the “Grand” and rent a Bed and Breakfast. You’ll be way happier with the result.
