Wonderful staff; super location

My husband and I spent a week at the Stratford visiting our daughter who is a student at SOU. We had a room with a king-sized bed which was very clean and had a great view of the mountains. Conveniently, it is located across the street from a Safeway grocery store that we frequented almost daily for snacks, breakfast burritos, and other necessities. Room: The bed linens were very clean with plenty of various pillows. It wasn’t the most comfortable mattress I’ve slept on. There were 2 chairs by the window that we used most evenings throughout the week. We especially liked the armoire with plenty of hangers where we stored our luggage, coats and recycling bags. There was a small dresser and chest with more than enough room for both of us to keep all of our clothes for the week. There was also a work desk that became or “catch all” during our stay. There was a very roomy mini fridge and microwave that we also used. The bathroom was a little outdated, but clean with plenty of towels and full-sized toiletries which was wonderful! We especially liked the liquid soap and lotion at the sink for hand-washing which is so much better than bar soap. Laundry: There is on-site laundry for guests (quarter operated) that we used twice. It was very clean and did an excellent job of cleaning. There is also a small table with 2 chairs in the room for those who wish to wait while their laundry processes. My favorite part (besides the vending machines) were the timers on the machines showing how much time was left in the cycle so you could make sure you were there to move laundry if you left the room for any length of time. Breakfast: The breakfast area was on the second floor with wonderful views of the mountains and down into the pool/hot tub area. They served homemade steel cut oats (delicious!), two kinds of yogurt (with any topping you could think of), hard-boiled eggs, tea, coffee, juice, milk, bagels, cereal and other types of pastries. They play music in this room, and our room was directly adjacent, and one night the jazz music played all night and it filtered into our room. It was just one night, and it wasn’t loud enough to disturb us terribly. Parking: There was plenty of parking, some of it under cover, but with low clearance. Facilities: The building itself is older, but has charm and what I would call a Shakespearean theme, as does most of Ashland. There was artwork of Shakespeare and theater posters throughout the hotel. The halls were lined with dark wood, but the flooring was what appeared to be luxury vinyl planking which is so much nicer than the horrid carpet most hotels use. In summary, we greatly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning. The staff was incredibly friendly, and housekeeping met all of our needs when requested. We also liked that each room had both trash and recycling! Thanks, Stratford Inn for a great stay.

A Great Stay

I had a great stay at this very conveniently located hotel. Maeve at the desk was super helpful and patient as I asked loads of questions about the area and inflicted a lot of silly chatter. The pool was SO warm it was amazingly relaxing and in a lovely sunlit room. I enjoyed the handiness of the micro-fridge and the great Portland Coffee Roasters packets for the in-room coffeemaker. The buffet-style breakfast was full of healthy items including vegan and GF options, steelcut oatmeal and plentiful coffee. The bed was firm which my back really appreciated after too many hammock-mattresses in other hotels on my trip. All the staff were professional and busy when I saw them.

Absolutely awesome Halloween season hotel stay!

I travel a lot worldwide and I have to rate my stay at this hotel one of the best ever! The staff is friendly and accommodating, the facilities are immaculate, and the vibe is just all around pleasant! The Halloween decorations set a very festive atmosphere as well. The pool and hottub area was the icing on the cake - clean, perfect temperature, and plenty of clean towels. You can just tell that they care and put there all into making your stay as enjoyable as possible. I will be back as often as I can! I truly cannot think of a single negative comment.

A Bit Disappointed

3 of us stayed at the Stratford Inn at the beginning of our road trip to Southern California. We chose the Stratford Inn based on reviews and its proximity to the Shakespeare Festival and restaurants. Upon entering our room, we noticed a musty smell. We opened the windows to air it out, but later that evening upon getting in to bed, the sheets were damp. Yuck! Also, it has a somewhat stocked kitchen with a few glasses, plates, etc, but no dishwashing soap and no handsoap. The bar of hand soap in the bathroom was so small, it didn't last overnight with 3 of us. There were food crumbs in the living area. The hot tub was closed (a determining factor in my choice of hotel) They have you fill out a form for breakfast (included). Each guest may choose a TOTAL of FOUR items, which we did. The next morning, we were each given a brown paper bag containing our breakfast. Although we each ordered a banana, there were none. Same with the yogurt. Orange Juice was supposed to be provided, there was none. We asked for extra oatmeal to make up for the missing items... they were out. We were on the road for 2 weeks. This was our least favorite place.
