hubs wants to go back again and explore more in the area - we were there to see the john day national park and this was a good landing location. the jon day river was just a few blocks away to spend an afternoon relaxing.
We were in town for the wedding of family friends. We stayed in the Moose Room (queen bed, plus twin bed). The room was comfortable, although it could have used an additional chair and brighter room lighting. We enjoyed the close proximity to the general store/fuel stop/restaurant which was next door. It was great to walk 1/2 block to get fresh coffee and muffins at 7am. They also serve breakfast as well. We did have a burger and fries for lunch one day and they were great! We found the owner Tim to be very helpful…we were looking for a corkscrew for wine and he left us a voicemail message with suggestions. It’s a very rustic setting, it’s not a large City Marriott property. Taking that into consideration, we’d recommend it and will stay again. Suggestions to guests: bring microwave popcorn or snacks to heat up in the microwave and your own beverages since there is a refrigerator. If you’re a late arrival, also bring something you can do in the microwave or brig sandwiches for dinner. The restaurant next door is not open past late afternoon. The town is very quiet, but the motel is located on the main road so it can be noisy when people return late at night. We didn’t have a chance to test out the AC, but the heater worked well this weekend. The property is dog friendly, how thoughtful to have a blanket for the dog and rags to clean up any pet issues. They also provide poo bags for taking your dog to the grassy areas. Great idea! Thanks for a great stay.
Great location to stay while visiting the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and Painted Hills. The outside looks a little rustic and dusty but we found it super cute and loved the rustic charm. When we arrived there were several guests seated in the chairs around the outdoor table enjoying the quiet evening in this small town. We all found it very friendly and relaxing. We stayed in the Bear room with one queen and a single. Very clean room stocked with many items a traveling in a more remote area of Oregon would need. Refrigerator, microwave, paper plates, bowls, cups, paper towels, coffee maker, coffee and creamer. There's even dog mats and rags. The room was very clean with a rustic outdoorsy feel and decor. The town is very small and there's no place to eat dinner so eat before or bring your own. We all slept great because it was so quiet and dark in this little town. No breakfast is provided but you can get it next door at the Lone Elk. The owner is super friendly. We'd stay here again.
We were on a cycling tour of the area and had a very enjoyable evening at the River Bend Motel. Owner Tim let us cook our dinner on his BBQ grill. Visitors to Spray should consider this option since the cafe next door shuts down a little early for dinner. Room was clean and comfortable, with a full sized fridge as well. Great address for a remote part of Oregon.
Excellent motel very clean and tidy. So quiet and peaceful. Great opportunity to meet locals and relax. The staff were very accommodating. Would recommend breakfast at Lone Elk store next door. Carolyn & Guy (New Zealand)
