May 26, 3:46 pm (11 hours before check-in) email from Marriott Residence Inn, Salem: "Due to a communication error between our system and sales, we have been overbooked and do not have a room available to check you into." But not to fear they have booked us at the Doubletree right down the street, must be just as good right? Not! The hotel is undergoing construction! The room is unfinished, furniture is scraped, the light switch plate is broken and there's a hole in the bathroom ceiling -- plus, no wifi or any other internet connection! Although the room is paid for, when you're on vacation you want someplace pleasant! And a hotel that honors its reservations!
Nice Hotel. Was told breakfast started at 7 am when we checked in. It actually started at 6 am. Evening clerk should have known this. We asked for extra pillows on our reservation. Did not receive them. We booked the suite with the king bed and sofa sleeper. When we got to our room the sofa was not a sleeper. Had to go back and get another room. At 320 dollars our service should have been better. Also, I am amazed at how hotels can just charge you 12 dollars a day for parking. I mean this is a parking lot. It's not even secured. Its a shame they are allowed to rip people off like that,
Front desk is frequently un-attended, you have to call and someone runs in from somewhere. This is only sets the bar for non-guests to come in and warm themselves at the fireplace. Went out to load my car and homeless guy came in was trying to obtain breakfast- a little kindness goes a long way but he shouldn’t be trying to coast in with Customers this isn’t safe for those traveling alone and without a desk constantly unattended you don’t know what your going to face in the lobby. If your cool with this, this is your place. Large pets are welcome. The room had been refreshed but tub was mostly missing the finish so it felt very sandy on the feet.
Easy check in, nice size room, great bedding and bed, very good breakfast for hotel breakfast. The carpeting was a little frayed and old. A couple items in our room needed dusting. All aid, we would definitely stay there again.
As a lifetime titanium member, I did not expect to find an inebriated, in attentive desk attendant who made suggestive overtures at me upon arrival. She also completely disregarded my status and incorrectly entered my information so that, on the following day, I was charged significantly more than I should’ve been. Admittedly, I did get a response from the general manager the next day expressing his disappointment from his staff, and reimbursing me for my stay. The room was clean and comfortable, but the experience was definitely memorable in my two decade experience with Marriott properties.
