The Lodge at Summer Lake features delicious, hand prepared food, clean comfortable rooms and lakeside cabins, the lovely Fireside room for meetings and Texas Hold ‘Em, all with a rustic Western ambiance surrounded by High Desert wetlands for world class bird watching and overlooking the soaring 3000 foot Winter Rim.

My wife and I stayed in room #7 on the first weekend in May. Room was clean and decent. Room had 2 queen beds, we felt they were both way to firm for our liking. Our room had snuck view of both ponds, nice bench out front, microwave and small refrigerator. Our main complaint was hearing the people in room next to us. They weren’t being loud, but could hear them talking at normal level. We had dinner and breakfast at the on-site restaurant and it was good and reasonably priced. Staff was very friendly. Located right across hwy 31 from Summer Lake wildlife refuge, very popular for bird watchers. I will definitely return for a boys weekend of fishing or hunting, A nice place to escape life and enjoy a bit of piece and quiet
As always the staff at The Lodge is welcoming and efficient. Check in especially with pets is easy and convenient. The rooms are basic but well kept and clean. Pricing for this location and room type was more than fair and had been steady for several years. The attached dinning room serves excellent and reasonably priced food.
I agree completely with the previous reviewer's commentary on the irresponsibility of the Lodge's owners/managers in their response to Covid. We encountered the same sign on the office/restaurant door after making an online booking and had no alternative but to make the best of a bad situation. To make things even more alarming, in the middle of our stay, we were informed that the restaurant was going to be closed because one or more of the proprieters had been expsed to Covid. Alas, the next day they were back in business, operating the restaurant as a mask-free zone. Needless to say we did not enter the premises after checking in. The sad thing about this is we have stayed the The Lodge at Summer Lake many times in the last 20+ years and have thought of it fondly as a place we would return to on a regular basis. While we will continue to visit Summer Lake, we will no longer be patronizing the Lodge. Such blatant disregard for their guests and customers will not be rewarded by us.
If I had known that the owners value their own maskless comfort over the safety of their guests I would have chosen not to book here. Guests are greeted by a sign on the office door saying they are not willing to mask and guests should take care of themselves - as if their choice does not affect their guests. I would have appreciated having this info on the website so I could have chosen to book elsewhere. Since at that point we couldn't cancel, we stayed but cooked our meals rather than ordering food here, choosing not to support them any further. It's a beautiful location and the Ponderosa cabin was very nice. Loved the deck on the pond with all the wood ducks. I would have given a positive review except for the no mask policy. They also neglected to mention on the website that you can't drive up to the cabin but have to carry your luggage/supplies in a ways. The cabin was generally clean and comfortable but lacking coffee filters for the coffee pot and several light bulbs were burned out.
We stayed in a motel room. They also have cabins available. It was nice and clean. It was quiet. We loved sitting out on the deck, enjoying the peace and quiet, watching the wildlife. The owners were very accommodating, providing ice and opening the restaurant for their guests. The food was good and reasonably priced. I would stay here again.
