Nice hotel in the middle of nowhere, lol.
Very nice hotel with the option to stay in cabins. We stayed in the hotel as we only stayed for one night. The hotel room was very clean and nice. TV only had one channel, but that was ok with us. Nice bathroom area with a nice shower. Beautiful setting. Breakfast seems to be nice, but it opened at 8 and we were getting ready to go on the road so we didn't get to try it.. Make sure you have plenty of gas when getting out here as it is in an isolated area with little to no services until you get to Summer Lake.. There is a gas station close by to the hotel but it also opens at 8.
Relaxing with a gorgeous view!
We stayed for 3 nights in the Ponderosa Cabin that has a deck next to the pond. Absolutely gorgeous views. The cabin was very clean and comfortable and we enjoyed our meals at the restaurant. The lodge is located across the street from a nature preserve which was the main reason for our trip ... birding in eastern Oregon. Everyday we drove for miles throughout the area- returning to the cabin each evening to relax. I highly recommend the Lodge at Summer Lake!
We had a motel room (not the cabins) which was simple but ok. It was clean. We did have a lot (and I really mean like 15) flies in our room. It did not bother us that much since flies don’t sting. We also had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant which was vey nice. A perfect place for a one night stop.
Rustic Get Away
I visited this place years ago and it was basic! But it is close to the wildlife refuge and was pleasant enough. This year we were traveling through and stayed for a night. I was happy to see that it had been updated. The room was nicer than before and had things not available before like fridge microwave and coffee maker. The biggest change was in the reception and dining room which were fixed up and decorated in a rustic style that fits the historic building. The best was the food. We had a great dinner with fresh veggies. Breakfast was also very good and meals are reasonably priced. They have added cabins behind the motel units that face the little lake with decks. These have kitchens. We plan to return😊.
Summer Lake Gem
While on a road trip along an Oregon recommended scenic route, we spent a couple nights in Room 1, though it appears that the pond-side cottages are the big draw. Our room was comfortable and clean and cheaper than a cottage. We loved spending time with cocktails beside the beautiful pond watching bass leap into the air for flying insects and the sun going down behind the mountains. The restaurant offers well-executed meals. We had delicious breakfasts both days. The owners are friendly, warm folks.
