Great place to stay

A last-minute booking as our accommodation was cancelled in Crescent City due to fires taking out the electricity - but turned out to be a really comfortable stay. Friendly service at check-in, cozy rooms. In an ideal world, they'd strip the carpets out the rooms and replace them with floorboards as carpets stain so easily - so initial impression was a little underwhelming, but actually everything else was immaculate. Restaurant over the road was fine for dinner (and open late which apparently is a rarity in the US!) - service was better than the food, although the attached bar was nice with good local bars.

My husband and I wanted to get away and have a nice relaxing evening we decided to try out this resort. I looked online at prices and had a good idea once I went to the front desk and asked how much your room would be it was $50 more than it was online. Brought it to the clerks attention and she said she doesn’t have access to the online prices. I had to go online to book my reservation. The cell service in this area is horrible so it took me an additional 10 minutes before I had to go on Wi-Fi to complete the reservation. We checked in there is trash everywhere on this property and it is run down. The rooms were clean, but maintenance workers were staying on the other side with garbage on their balcony an unacceptable balcony per the rules of the hotel. The staff were young and rude. We went ahead and made the best out of it. The next morning at 8:25a we woke up in the morning to the fire alarm going off. I called the front desk and she tried to tell me the battery must be going out. It wasn’t a chirp it was the alarm, I do know the difference They sent a maintenance worker up who is laughing that we had just gotten woken up by the fire alarm. It also smelled like exhaust. Very dangerous. We checked out early. I went down to the front desk to ask if we were to get a discount or something to make things right on the horrible experience and I was told no. Sorry. This property I would not recommend staying here. Way over priced most likely because the firefighters were staying there and they were taking advantage of the system.

If I could give Jots Resort a 0 score I would. When I booked I was very excited to have the amenities I like. These are indoor pool, hottub, sauna, gym, and restaurant and bar on the premises. When I checked in I asked if all the amenities were functional – and was told they were all “super functional”. (I had also called ahead of time and asked the same question) That is where the lies began. However – most of these were fraudulent advertising. There is an indoor pool – but it was not heated and pretty much unusable. There was a nice hot tub – but since the pool was sooooo cold, everyone was swimming in the hottub. The sauna was fine. The photos on the website show a nice outdoor pool – but that does not an has never existed. The photos on the website of the nicely equipped gym (it even lists the equipment) are from some other place. They even have fitness center listed on the front marquee - yet there is no fitness center. I looked all over the building where I was sent to search on my own for a gym by the front desk guy(they likely thought that was funny) – and no gym no room that was supposed to be a gym, and NO GYM indicated on the map they give you. They claimed it was “under construction” – well the one in the fake photo was definitely NOT under construction. When I questioned the statement about all the amenities being “super functional” - the excuse was he did not know that they had a gym (which they of course do not) – I guess he never read the marquee. As for the supposed restaurant – Jots claims it is their restaurant – it is on the map with the hours, but the people at the restaurant said they are “not affiliated in any way with the resort”. When I went to dinner there, I was turned away due to a large private party – already booked – and was told they could have a large party at any time – so the restaurant might never be available. The front desk guy suggested that a pizza delivery was the same as a nice dinner with a glass of local wine. Other issues (partial list) – no elevator – so one needs to carry stuff upstairs – but the handrails are old and weathered wood that could easily cause splinters should you have to hold on to one. I asked in the morning for housekeeping to deliver towels and empty trash – was told it would be done – of course not done 8 hours later. When I asked for this to be done – they were just too busy checking people in and would get to it in an hour(probably would not have happened) and were very annoyed that I dared to request this when “they were so busy”. I had to bring my towels and trash to the office. I was told the manager would call me to discuss the issues – that never happened. The one truth – all the rooms do have an ocean view. Seemed clean-ish – but I was not sure they changed the sheets since they were so wrinkled. I wish I had looked at the 2 star rating on Trip Advisor first. I was fooled by the fraudulent website.

WHAT HAPPENED?

I've been staying at Jot's for about 20 years. Sadly, this last time will be the last time. The grounds had litter wherever you looked. The room we were in was dirty. The walls had stains on them and I don't think it was cleaning solution. The fan in the room was covered in lint/dust. The carpet looked like the floor of a public rest room. The doors were missing parts and no longer fit the frames, making them loud and hard to open. Judging by the sounds, all night long, we weren't the only ones fighting with old doors. The toilet seat was detached from the toilet. The items provided for guest use were clearly the cheapest available. (bring your own TP) I'll hold onto my memories of the old Jot's and try to forget this third world experience.
