Hotel Sylvia is a boutique destination for book lovers on the Oregon Coast. This iconic property (c. 1910) has operated for more than forty years as a quiet literary retreat. The hotel is named after the legendary 20th century bookseller and publisher Sylvia Beach. After purchasing the hotel in 2024, VIP Hospitality completed a full renovation in 2025 to preserve its legacy for decades to come. Perched on a cliff above the Pacific Ocean, the hotel’s breakfast café, lobby, and most guestrooms boast stunning views of the coast. A dedication to literary culture is felt in details throughout, including original artwork and bookshelves in every room. Each of the 22 guest rooms has a literary theme: seven are dedicated to specific authors, and the others are tastefully decorated with a literary genre (Drama, Fantasy, Historical, Literary Non-Fiction, Mystery, and Romance). The top floor of the hotel houses the James Joyce Library, a quiet attic space to read and write.

Hotel Sylvia was everything you could want and more. The cozy sitting areas, fabulous breakfast, and the beautiful rooms. We would definitely stay again. Alex at the front desk was friendly, helpful, and always quick with a smile. He was great!

A night with Angelou
My wife and I only stayed one night but it was amazingly great . We love it and we will definitely come back !!! From the moment we walked in we noticed the quiet and the room full of good energy ! The ocean view is so peaceful!!!

Lovely Coastal Retreat 🙌
It was our first time staying at this hotel, and I couldn’t be more impressed. The level of service and warm welcome we received upon checking in was excellent, the bed and accommodations were incredibly comfortable, access was excellent with stunning views of Nye Beach. If you do plan to stay, be aware the property is old and sound carries, ventilation isn’t the greatest, and there’s only stairs to upper floors. If you’re looking for an unplugged retreat from normal hustle & bustle, or a romantic weekend tryst, this couldn’t be a better choice.

Beautiful beachfront hotel
Perfect location on Nye Beach, walkable to everything we could want. Nice small room. Stand outs for us were the beautiful deck(s), easy beach access, complementary coffee, and amazing staff - thank you Alex for taking care of us!

Fabulous literary weekend.
Lovely hotel on the coast. The rooms are comfortable and we had an amazing view of the beach (Shakespeare room). The breakfast was nice and with making a reservation with the front desk. All the hang out areas are great. Definitely will come again.
