Bland hotel with no room service
Hotel is just bland. Nothing fancy. Breakfast with no milk for cereals because they don't have some anymore. Of course, running to Walmart to get a gallon of milk would be too difficult for the breakfast attendant. Breaky no better than a Quality Inn honestly. Bathroom is rooms way too small. No room service despite asking the reception in the morning in between the two nights. Towels on the floor to be changed but ended up not being changed since teh room was not made. In the age of improved hygiene awareness thanks to COVID, it is mindboggling that hotels are shirking and not providing any service. Paid same price for first and second night. Why are they not making the room the second night. Not acceptable.

That Hilton Extra
I chose to stay at this Double Tree again, after a previous positive experience. The well maintained indoor pool is large enough to get a mini low-impact workout. The jacuzzi jets give a powerful massage, and l walked away refreshed. The staff is cordial and helpful. One of the managers helped me locate points of interest in Salem. The 24 hour staff was very responsive. My king size bed was comfortable for my 2 night stay. I needed a desk for graphic art and there was enough room to spread out supplies and sketches while watching classic movies.

There are many budget-friendly hotel choices in Newport Oregon, don’t choose this one!
Where do I begin with all the bad experiences we had in this hotel? First, we were assigned a room on the 4th floor, and as soon as we got off the elevator the strong smell of Marijuana overwhelmed us. When we entered our room it was even worse. We immediately returned to the lobby to request another room, and were assigned a room on the 2nd floor. We began unpacking and noticed it was cold in the room, so we attempted to turn up the thermostat. Long story short, after a half hour visit in our room by a hotel employee, it was determined that the furnace was broken. Back down to the lobby for a third room, and even tho it was on the second floor, it was directly underneath the fourth floor marijuana room so it also stunk of weed. Back to the lobby for a forth room on the opposite end of the building, and though it was ok to stay in, there were crumbs of food on the floor and hair in the bathroom. We were tired of the fiasco so we just cleaned it up ourselves. Through all of this, the hotel staff never offered to discount our rate or offer us a future discount to stay with Holiday Inn express. Needless to say, we’ll look elsewhere next time.

Pleasant
Good place to stay, good size and clean rooms, good food, there bar is food, Ida nice to see a hotel that allows dogs which was a pleasant experience in the evenings, only down side is there can be a slight smell of wet dog in the hotel. There are help yourself refill boxes on reception so that you can help yourself.

No internet access on the upper floors
Staff was friendly and the rooms were good sized and clean. Microwave and fridge came in handy. No Internet access on the fourth floor. I told the front desk about this issue. I came here to work for the week and was unable to do so in my room, so lugged my laptop down to the main lobby each day. (I realize the Oregon coast is probably not a place many people come to work, but it was an inconvenience for me) The breakfast was decent but never rotated until the last day I was there. They finally had egg white omelettes with turkey sausage. But there were yogurts, apples, and hard-boiled eggs— normal IHG fare. Workout facility was very small but sufficient.
