Great location, very friendly staff
We stayed here while attending a wedding, and my family was very impressed. The staff was very friendly, the views of the megler bridge we're gorgeous, and being right on the river walk gave us very convenient access to most of the breweries and restaurants in town.
We had no idea Holiday Inn Express was so nice! Sraff treated us wonderfully when we checked in tired and very late for Labor Day weekend. They were sweet to our dachshund, too. We got a King suite, river front. Amazing view of the mighty Columbia River, the beautiful bridge, trolley tracks (cute restored red trolley) and the mariner's memorial. Fabulous sunsets right in front of us. Continuous show of fishing boats, ships and tugs right in front of our window. Room was loaded with amenities, good furniture, comfortable bed, 2 TVs, gas fireplace, easy decor and good lighting for reading. We unpacted our stuff and had plenty of drawers to stow it away. We were told on the phone there were no kitchen amenities, only a snack refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave. Wrong! The room had a kitchen sink, too. And disposable plates, bowls, utensils, paoer towels, cups and glasses in handy zip-lock bags. They replenished daily. How thoughtful! Also, dishwashing soap, can opener, sponge and microwavable glass bowl. Little things matter and it was fun to make some simple meals to enjoy with our view. The place was packed for the holiday weekend, but our room was so quiet we slept very well. I would give 5 stars, but it's very expensive - over $300/night with the dog fee and the breakfast crew had a hard time keeping up - lots of waiting as they kept running out of everything.
Great weekend getaway!
This is a busy hotel but each time we have stayed it has been a good experience. The room we stayed in is a King Suite - very spacious, great view and wonderful view. This was the third time we have stayed here. The breakfast is good but sometimes you have to wait a little longer if you go at the wrong time. As mentioned - it's busy - but staff are pleasant and helpful. There is a good selection of foods and beverages. Plus - breakfast with a view is wonderful! We used this as a base to explore the area and enjoyed relaxing. Easy walking distance to many places downtown.
Good enough, but some things to know about
The hotel faces to the west, but if you pay extra for a river facing room, be sure to call and ask for a room where the sunset will not be blocked from view by the very wide base of the bridge tower right next to the hotel. Otherwise you will see pretty pink clouds, but not the actual sunset. The pool water was a bit cloudy and a bit green, plus there were either stains on the pool, floor or it just badly needed cleaning. Shrubs along the front walkway need to be trimmed more often to make it easy for a person in a wheelchair to fit by. It's a good thing that the cheesy music that blasts away in the restrooms and main lobby areas does not play in the computer center as you would not be able to think.
Lovely views of the bridge and right on the walking path infront of the hotel by the river. Hotel was clean and breakfast was excellent. The views of the bridge from the breakfast room was lovely. We had a room facing the bridge on the far end of the hotel. Could hear the sounds of cars and trucks as they crossed the metal bridge so it was not a quiet location. Not sure if this was the same for rooms not close to the bridge.
