Beware: Under New Ownership
I started going to this little motel with my parents at a very young age. We loved it for its location, friendly atmosphere and reasonable price. Between the local festivals, crabbing and other events it really became my very favorite place to stay on the coast.
As I grew older I began to take friends with me, who also fell in love with this amazing little gem by the bay. Besides periodic visits from all of us, we would also make sure to enjoy our stay all together there at least once a year, for my birthday and crabbing season, and between all of us we would always have at least half of the motel rented.
We really loved the kitchenettes, cooking up our fresh catch and gathering together for a giant feast, and some cards. This has been our tradition for 20+ years. We always share whatever we bring/caught with the host and/or fellow guests, and have always felt very welcome.
We’ve also always appreciated this little treasure, and made sure to wash our own dishes, take out our own trash, and leave the rooms as clean as we found them, with a tip to make up for the laundry.
All of this, and more is why I’m completely devastated and very sad that this little motel is now under new, and terrible ownership. They made my last stay in October the very last time I will visit what used to be my favorite little place on the Oregon Coast. Not only were we without hot water the entire day, but they also refused to fix the clogged sink in the kitchen. We had friends that were singing, perhaps a little too loudly, I’m not afraid to admit, but instead of being asked nicely to keep it down, they were threatened to be kicked out. During this time, one of the owners decided to replace the water heater, right next to my room, which was very noisy, and a lot of banging around. To make matters worse, after the water heater was replaced, we didn’t have ANY water at all for the rest of night.
Now I know you don’t know me at all, and you’re left with no choice but to take my word for it, but I’d like to think I’m a very easy going person, and I don’t like any trouble. If they would’ve at least given us an apology, just some acknowledgement of the awful situation, I probably would have gone away happy, but not only did they not offer any compensation but not so much as an explanation.
Now please know, I did everything I could to resolve this issue with them before I left this scathing review. I’ve tried messaging them, explaining how much their motel is beloved by friends, family and myself. I tried explaining to them how very sad my last visit made me feel, and patiently waited weeks for a reply. It was seen, but no response was given. I resigned myself to just moving on with life, and morn for the place that once was so great, but my mother really wished to stay there again. It is for that reason that she decided to call them, and try talking the whole situation over to see if maybe we might be able to work something out. Not only did they admit they purposely ignored my message, they also accused us of shoving crab down the drain (even though the sink was clogged before we started cooking), they also said they were going to put in a no crab cooking rule, and insinuated that we could no longer afford to stay there.
As much as I really hate writing a negative review, I feel it is a must in this case. I am not telling anyone they shouldn’t stay here, but just be prepared for a very unfriendly atmosphere. However, I really do hope they treat you far better than they did us.
