September beach getaway
There is no better location in Newport. Whale watching from your private balcony. Well appointed rooms. Super comfy beds. Excellent restaurant next door. AND pet friendly. Staff is excellent. It's our go to beach place.
This hotel was a major disappointment; in fact it was kind of a dump. Looks a lot better on the web than in real life. If you’re driving down the coast skip Newport altogether. Stay an extra day a Cannon Beach or something. There are much better towns to stay. Glad we only wasted one night there.
This hotel provides great views and access to the beautiful Oregon coast. Access to the beach requires navigating a long staircase. The hotel is nice but you are really paying for the view. Small window above the glass doors allow for wave sounds all night if desired. Large balconys to enjoy ocean watching. Also saw several whale plumes and tails.
Love this place
We love the Hallmark. The rooms are spacious and the views are amazing. Our bed was comfortable. They are pet friendly and the welcome bag for pets with instructions, goodies and a sheet and towel for them to use during your stay is especially nice since our little dog likes to lay on the couch next to me. The staff is very friendly. A definite must stay when in Newport. We will absolutely stay here again.
Fantastic hotel, especially for conferences or events
Excellent overall. The room was spacious with a superb view of the beach and the ocean, the staff was genuinely friendly and helpful (not merely in that artificially corporate sense), and the banquet meals were utterly impressive. The breakfast buffet and plated dinner at the event I attended were better quality, better tasting, and better presented than a lot of four-star hotel restaurants I've eaten at over the years. The bed was extraordinarily comfortable with a good variety of pillows and extra blanket if needed. I kind of wish I could have taken the mattress home with me (it was that comfortable). And you can't beat the location. Both Nye Beach and the Newport Bayfront are within easy walking distance (about three-quarters of a mile to each), the expanse of sandy beach just down the hill offers plenty of room to go walkabout, and it's a short drive over the bridge to the Oregon Coast Aquarium, the jetty, Hatfield Marine Science Center, the NOAA Pacific Fleet Headquarters, and other places to see. The overall sense I had was that the hotel truly does focus on customer service and experience - even in the fine details. Or especially in the fine details. I didn't have a single problem during my stay, but I overheard a couple other guest comment on how minor problems were handled quickly and effectively (e.g. the Keurig coffee maker in their room didn't work). I attended an event at the hotel and was equally impressed with the meeting facilities. The meeting rooms were comfortable, seating was spacious (rather than a lot of places that literally cram chairs three inches apart from each other at a table), and the coffee and water service was just great as well. They provided coffee from a well-regarded regional coffee roaster, and they made sure the beverages never ran out. The meeting rooms also had good AV systems (not too loud, not too quiet), and the temperate was set "just right." I think anyone planning any sort of event with a dozen or more people attending should put Hallmark Resort at the top of their list -- whether that is a wedding, workplace training, conference, retreat, or anything else.
