Newly upgraded!? It looked brand new!
Stayed there one night on April 12. We were 1 out of 3 people staying. Got snowed on driving in the mountains. Snow piled 3-5 inches pushed off to the side of a clean parking lot. 3rd floor chalet with balcony and gas heater on when we walked in. Highly recommend...close to the lake and the hiking trails...The gentlemen at the front desk was very professional and makes a great cup of coffee! The suite was great with an open kitchen and plenty of room for sleeping 8. Too much cloud cover that time of year to see stars.. Can't wait to go back...Dont wait for high season to go...its nice not having the crowd around. And OH so quiet at night.. And dark... So nice
Convenient and historic mini golf on site
Good location for visiting Joseph and Wallowa Lake. Right next to the Tram which was high on our list. We were there Sept 30th during the Alpenfest. The town was closing up for the winter so some limited things available, like restaurant fare. For planning purposes, we stayed in a Chalet room and though small it was nice but no elevator so if you have trouble with stairs, I recommend checking with the desk ahead of time. it looked like the cabins had a few stairs as well. Having spent 8 weeks in Oregon, aka dog heaven, I was surprised their dog policy was pretty strict and you pay extra. Even hotels in downtown Portland were nonchalant about animals in the building so if you have pets, check ahead of time and I think their policy is on the web site. There is a historic putt putt on site for a very reasonable rate; think it was $3 and they sold ice cream. Cinnamon rolls were available in the morning for a fee. Other than the trailheads up the hill you can walk to most everything like restaurants, the lake, the Tram, and other mini golf courses.
Really Good Choice in Joseph
I am really glad I chose this property. It is well maintained, clean, and modern - or at least my chalet room was; I did not try a cabin so can't speak to those. The front desk staff was super friendly. There's a gift shop and a small cafe. I loved that this hotel was a quick walk to the Wallowa Lake Tramway - which is spectacular. The property is in a woodsy lot, but it is on the two-lane highway - not an issue, but it is not as "out in the woods" as it may appear from some photos. That didn't bother me, because I was more concerned with convenience. My room had a fireplace, which I didn't think I'd need in September - but sure enough, after nightfall, I cranked it up and was kept nice and warm. I had an end unit, which I'd recommend asking for. It had a small patio/deck. Stepping outside first thing in the cool morning air - and seeing the mountains and towering pines = fantastic.
We had a great time.
This facility was located next door to the building the event we were attending. Left the car parked for the whole weekend. There were deer in the yard next door that were so content to be in the neighbors yard.
Great location for visiting Wallowa Lake.
Eagle Cap Chalet is located close to many of the attractions and within walking distance to Wallowa Lake. We had a room in the ground floor of the hotel wing. I would suggest staying in the top floor. We could hear every footstep of the people staying above us. The room was okay. The tv doesn't have the best reception. The manager said they had just switched to Dish and their connection was spotty. I know we weren't there for the tv but there isn't much else to do at WL after dark. The historic mini golf is part of the property. It is not as fancy as the course across the road but it is fun and cheap. Make sure you try one of their cinnamon rolls.
