Don't Expect Luxury---Go for the View and History
Our second trip to Crater Lake was marred by a cold rain and dense fog---so bad that we never were able to actually see the lake. But we fondly remember our last trip and the spectacular view of the lake from the lodge. We've stayed in a great number of national park lodges, and the view from this lodge is the best we've ever seen from a NP property. Some people might be disappointed with this hotel---like most NP lodges we've stayed in it is rustic, has small rooms, no a/c, no TV, pricey, etc. But you're paying to be inside a beautiful park, and sometimes modern updates ruin the history vibe. We've never stayed in a NP lodge we consider "luxury". We were only here for one night this time. The only room we could get was a two-level loft room, with double beds on each of the bottom and top floors. Bigger than we needed and very pricey ($400), but it's the only room we could get, so that's fine. There were some minor issues---one of the keys didn't work, a stand lamp was broken. and as usual for a NP lodge the bed was not very comfortable, Because of these issues, I did get a discount on the room from the manager. Staff was fine. Many are young summer workers (college), and they try their best to be friendly. In recent years we've seem marked improvement in the food service at NP lodges---a move toward fine dining. This time here we were impressed with the quality of the food (creative dishes) and service at both dinner and breakfast. As usual for a NP dining room, they were extremely busy at dinner, but staff handled it well. The maitre d' was kind enough to help us with a scheduling issue. Breakfast was excellent. Overall, our stay met our expectations. We were unlucky with the weather, as the lake view was the main reason for our return trip, but the lodge stay was OK.

Beautiful, stunning!
We stayed one night at Crater Lake lodge and it was beautiful! Our room had a view of the lake and it was stunning. We had our 8 year old granddaughter with us and the staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was pleasant, even giving our granddaughter little extra things so she would remember being there. Being there mid May limited us on activities since nothing was up and running yet but that did not take away from our experience. We had all our meals in the dining room. The staff was very attentive and the food was amazing. We had the fish and chips, Eggplant Napoleon, Crème Brûlée, biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls and the Crème Brûlée French toast all very good, and the butter! Sweet Jesus the best butter we’ve ever had!

THE worst hotel i have ever stayed at in the USA
This should have been a great experience given the site and the history of the hotel, BUT...... The "highlight" of our 2 night stay was being woken on both nights by the fire alarm - both false alarms. On the first night the alarm went off at around 11PM and there were absolutely no staff around to tell us what was going on and it was pitch black outside. The great view of the stars was not really a useful feature! It took the local fire marshal about 30 minutes to arrive and announce that they had no idea why the alarm went off but it was fine to go back in! The next night we were woken at 6AM with another false alarm - at least it was daylight! Again no staff to tell us what was happening until about 10 minutes after the alarm stopped when a lone member of staff stood at the front door and thanked is for our patience as we trooped back in! We then got ready to check out where they had left one young girl managing the front desk. She clearly had never had any training on how to deal with complaints, she just stood there and looked helpless, but not a single word of apology. She told me there was no manager on site (that is just incompetent - a manager should have been on site pronto after the fire alarm). One other member of staff did interrupt to tell her "she might get complaints about the fire alarm" but then ran off leaving the poor girl alone to face the music. The rest of the stay was not great. The front desk staff were obviously all new and not really up to the job. Check in therefore was a bit of a shambles. The luggage carts don't fit in the lifts very well, nor do they fit through the doorways and certainly don't fit into the rooms. Our "deluxe" room did at least face the lake - a pretty good view - but was about the size of the average closet. One bed, one chair, a cluttered desk, power points that didn't work and no air conditioning. We did have a window with huge gaps between the sashes though to help with the cooling, just as well it was quite warm. All in all certainly not worth the money they charge. Clearly they think that 1920s standards are adequate in the 21st century. They are not! We had reservations for the restaurant on both nights - the first night we stood at the desk for about 10 minutes while staff milled around and ignored us. Eventually a very harassed looking maitre-de showed us to a table. They clearly didn't have enough staff but the food was OK. Not very impressed though that the couple on the next table clearly knew the waiter and got much better and quicker service than we did. The second night was better, at least the waitress admitted she was training a colleague who was with her - I have no problem with that, everyone has to learn their job. As a plus point, the food was to a reasonable standard and not too badly priced. Oddly, we won't be coming back!

Views are amazing but staff needs to step up
First let me say that we tried to confirm reservations multiple times prior to our visit and make reservations for dining and no one would ever answer the phone. Online reservations six months prior to our visit said all times were booked. The problem with that is if you do not have dining reservations inside the lodge, you must drive down the mountain 7 miles to the next restaurant. In my opinion, those staying inside the lodge should receive first priority for dining. The lodge itself is old but stately and well kept. The views are amazing and the lake is absolutely breathtaking.

A historic lodge - lovely, but anticipate issues
A beautiful lodge. View on lake side was beautiful. We got up early for sunrise and were not disappointed. Stay for the experience; expect that it will likely not be perfect. The queen size bed we reserved was a Full, though the desk staff insisted they only have Queen and King beds… yet they mentioned that others complain of the same issue. The power went out at about 8pm and came back on sometime in the middle of the night. I get it - it’s a historic lodge. They did have flashlights and extra blankets, and there was some emergency lighting.
