    Your basic motel

We stayed at Captain John as a place to just sleep as we were meeting up with friends in the area. So we wanted a no frills place to sleep. It was clean and adequate. It is located near the public docks and the Coast Guard station. Good location for crabbing. Staff was friendly. The rooms could use a bit of maintenance. The sink was slow draining. The bathroom counter was literally just about my knee caps and I'm not that tall. The toilet was very short- great for someone 3 - 4 foot tall. And, the closet was screwed shut with a sign on it that advised you that it was not a closet and do not try to open. it also had small holes in the doors that were screwed shut. A little unsettling. Overall, I would go back if we could not find other accommodations. so not written off

    Budget motel near pubic docks

If you came to catch crabs (the ocean going kind), this is the place! The motel is very basic, but the shower was good and everything we wanted was nearby. You can rent a couple crab rings (fish heads included!) at Basin Tackle and spend the day drinking beer and crabbing on the docks. Bring those crabs back to Cap’n John’s and cook ‘em up in the fish house - they have huge pots and propane burners (50 cents for 10 minutes, about $1.50 to get the crabs boiled up). If you’d rather somebody else cook your dinner, there’s decent food at a couple of restaurants within easy walking distance, Miller’s at the Cove is a nice sports bar with excellent fish selection. There are a couple of convenience stores a few blocks away, and a good breakfast place across the highway. They let us bring our dog. We liked staying at CaptainJohn’s!

Lucky to have found this place

We had a reservation in a hotel along Highway 101-unfortunately, when we arrived, we were advised that they did not have a reservation, forcing us to look elsewhere for last minute accommodations on a Friday and Saturday night. Captain John's was recommended, as they had accommodations available. We called, spoke to Sabrina, who graciously held the room until we arrived-we weren't sure if we were going to stay. Upon arrival, she was very helpful, letting us review the room before accepting it. The room was clean and had ample space, with 2 beds a large closet, and a Keurig coffeemaker! The room was quiet, we were not bothered by noise. This was a different location than we had hoped for, but we explored the area and found some lovely beaches to visit. Many thanks to Sabrina for all of her assistance and helpful tips.

    Had to try it!

If they would just do a little more updating (carpets, beds, etc.) this place would be just fine. I don't mind old and clean, but this was hard to sleep in. The carpets were very stained and the box spring on the bed was gross!

Met our needs for the night.

Friendly staff and easy check-in. Room was clean. Place was quiet (at least by 10 PM when some tourists stopped shooting off fireworks). Wasn't close enough to room to be a real bother. This was a last minute reservation made while traveling. It might have been a little farther off Hwy 101 than preferred, but served it's purpose. Added bonus was nice restaurant within walking distance.
