Great Retro Motel.
We made a last-minute trip to the greater Coos Bay area. I love old school motels, and this filled the bill. The room had been recently re-done and was clean, quiet and comfortable. We walked across the street to the Portside and had drinks and dinner and watched the boat lights come on. The staff was friendly and it didn't cost an arm and the leg we would stay there again. This was rainy winter, so there were only what looked to be 4 rooms occupied.

Bare Bones
We have stayed here many times, and it hasn’t changed much over the years. It is a bare bones motel, the rooms are very dated, threadbare linens. This time we couldn’t use the heater because it kept kicking on and off all night and it sounded like a Jake brake on a Mack truck. The blow dryer was broken and the dumpster outside the door was stinkin to high heaven. But we always come back because we love to go crabbing on the public docks and this place is convenient and has facilities to cook our catch. The area is quite depressed; most of the restaurants have closed down, and Basin tackle is out of business. Sad. Millers by the Cove restaurant across the street is excellent! Best steamers I’ve ever had!

Clean, Peaceful, and Close to Nature
We enjoyed our stay at Captain John's in Charleston. Our tidy, cozy room included all the amenities we needed for a two-night stay. There's even a fish-cleaning station and dining room options for guests who've been crabbing or digging for clams. Although breakfast wasn't technically included our booking, we put together a light breakfast of complimentary pastries, fruit, and coffee in the bright, cheerful reception area. Charleston couldn't be more convenient to Sunset Bay, Shore Acres, and Cape Arago State Parks and South Slough National Estuarine Reserve.
