Good value and clean all over.
Spent one night in a suite with 2 double beds. The beds were a bit too small and short but otherwise good inventory all over. The outdoor pool was good with lots of towels to use. The breakfast was popular with the usual yogurts, juice, scrambled eggs, meat patties, waffles, etc. Plenty of room to sit and move around. I wouldn’t recommend walking or borrowing a free bike into downtown Ashland due to the traffic and distance. There’s plenty of parking, especially near the park downtown. We recommend the place!
Large property with retro style, overall a good stay
As most reviewers mention, this property stands out because of the cool Thunderbirds-are-go styling vibe. Its quite extensive so it might be a bit of a walk depending on where your room is. Breakfast is included so thats a good thing and the breakfast room is big so plenty of room for everyone and food was tasty. Our room was enormous and well set up and very quiet except for the people up the corridor who cam in at 1am talking and banging doors loudly all the way up and down the corridor. Just a couple of small things to mention - not deal breakers just to be aware of. If the front desk person doesn't want to crack a smile when he hears guests make the same lame joke he has probably heard around thousand times when he says, "Do you have any animals with you?" then maybe front desk is not the best job for him. Use this as an opportunity to connect with guests and pretend its the first time you have heard the hilarious response of "Just my partner/ kids etc..." Secondly, when asked about laundry facilities, its helpful to mention that the washing powder machine is indeed broken and powder DOES need to be purchased from the front desk, not that you can if you want to, making it seem as if its an option. It was a very long trek from room to laundry to front desk back to laundry. Also, in room coffee is truly awful and please fix the time on the alarm clock - it was way out and we had no idea how to correct it - housekeeping staff should do this as part of their room set up. Happy with stay otherwise.
The minute I stepped into the lobby o was smitten. Such cool and different decor! Rooms are huge (we didn't even have a suite!!!) With comfy beds. Pool looks nice, we listened to jazz at the cute bar Luna and had a drink. Food didn't look great. We also didn't have breakfast since we read it's just waffles, hard boiled eggs and Sausage patties and we wanted something a bit more substantial. But otherwise, the perfect place to stay in this lovely town! About a 7 min drive downtown, so if being in the thick of it is important to you, stay downtown.
Always a great stay at Ashland Hills. Everything has really improved since the new owners took it over in 2013. Good breakfast, nice restaurants, great pool and tennis courts. They even have a couple suites that are pet friendly.
Family Reunion Weekend June 2019
We had a multi-generational family reunion weekend at the Ashland Hills Hotel and Suites and thought my first time experience there deserved a 5-star rating compared to other places in Ashland. It is a renovated motor hotel that is decorated in the late mid-century era it was built in (70s) so you have to come prepared to understand this is not a luxury hotel. And one has to drive into downtown Ashland for about 10 minutes ... it’s on the outskirts of town by Interstate 5 and not much a visitor would want to see walking distance from the motel. We opted to stay in a King Suite for a small additional nightly rate and appreciated the extra sitting room separate from the bedroom. The room was renovated in all of its “soft” goods: bed, furniture, curtains, decor, flat screen TVs, free WiFi, etc. Room was clean and housekeeping staff friendly and responsive. They did moderate updates to the “hard” space: bathroom tub was fine, but not necessarily brand new, sinks and counters were too low for anyone of average height, built in cabinets and closets were just painted over, interior doors were replaced. King suite had an extra sink in master bedroom and a sink counter with microwave, mini fridge, and coffee maker in the living room. Nice touch. The Suites Wing is not connected to the main lobby, but still close enough but you do have to walk outside over the atmospheric bridge over the sunken garden. Complimentary breakfast was satisfactory, was the same daily, but don’t expect anything unique (fresh fruit, yogurts, muffins, oatmeal, dry cereals, make-your-own messy waffles, scrambled eggs and sausage patties, toast and bagels). We did not try Luna Cafe but looked cool and other family members said it was fine. Meeting facilities were close, convenient, nicely decorated (70s vibe). Staff were attentive. Free parking a plus. Outdoor Pool is small, but fine for a dip, adjacent spa tub kept clean, but not a lot of loungers. Gym is small but pretty adequate and better than expected. An Albertsons market and neighborhood mall is a few blocks across from the Interstate for extra provisions.
