Disappointing and Frustrating
We had stayed at this quaint inn last year and we had a positive experience; therefore, we decided to stay there again. Unfortunately, this time was a major disappointment. It was uncomfortable and frustrating. The building is charming and conveniently located in Seaside, close to the beach and restaurants in walking distance. First of all, the young man who checked us in displayed a total lack of courtesy, no good manners, no welcoming attitude, and poor customer skills; all these, the opposite of what one expects from hotel staff. He seemed more interested in his phone than in being professional. The room was charming but the walls have no insulation so one can hear virtually everything from other rooms; all types of bathroom sounds and loud conversations. There's no thermostat in the room so there's no way to control the temperature. Radiators maintain the room warm; rather, too hot in the middle of the night. The piece of metal that holds the shower head in place was broken. We asked for it to be repaired. When we inquired about the status of the repair, this man replied: "I'm sure it was repaired ... but I'm not sure." It had not been repaired. When it was finally fixed, the new piece that replaced the old one could not hold the shower head in its place. It kept falling off, causing the water to go all over the bathroom, and making it quite uncomfortable to have a simple good shower. The coffee pot was not cleaned. The coffee was not replenished. The bags of non-dairy creamer seemed ancient: hard like a rock. None of these concerns is a tragedy and they may sound like "first world problems," but lodging is not cheap so a traveler expects better service than this. We will not stay there again.
Great stay but reception desk service needs improvement
It was a nice experience living in a historic house for a couple of days. The location is terrific. We were in the Turret Room. It was attractive, clean, comfortable and well heated. The breakfast was a good value and tasty, but nothing exceptional. The service was very good. There is room for improvement, primarily at the reception desk. We are 80 years old and getting our luggage up the steep stairs was difficult. There was no offer of assistance from the young man just sitting there. He was at least affable and friendly. All the rest of the people at the desk during our stay were not. They didn't offer even a hello or good morning.
Beautiful house! Felt so cozy. Best bath I've ever had (the Alexandre room has a deep clawfoot tub). Breakfast was real, much better than a hotel continental breakfast, and the staff was very friendly.
My daughter and I stayed in the 3rd floor Garret room, which is perfect for families. (Note: It’s not an easy room to get big suitcases up to!) The only negative was not enough hot water for a bath. Mary at the front desk was lovely and the girls doing breakfast were cheerful and helpful.
Lovely little guesthouse
Great stay! Lovely house, period features and curios… all in the lovely Seaside! Room was cost, bed super comfy with high standard of cleanliness. Breakfast was a welcome inclusion, and staff were top form! Overall, excellent value stopover!
