Breathtaking views in a perfectly designed room.
Our recent visit was the first time that we had returned to Cannery Pier since the renovations. I am a big fan of the improvements. The hotel looks brand new and immaculately kept. Our room was one of the best designed hotel rooms that I have stayed in. A very spacious king room to with a window seat, couch, and table and chairs. Ample storage with good closet space, dresser drawers, shelving units, and bedside tables with drawers. Room to spread out and a place for everything. Large coffee bar with a sink and fridge. I can't say enough about the individual heating and cooling unit. Such an improvement over thermostats in hotel rooms that sometimes seem to be centrally controlled. There's also a fireplace. The large bathroom contained a stand alone shower and large claw foot tub and separate water closet. Ample outlets for all of your electronics and good lighting. Breathtaking, hypnotic views. Being 600 feet out into the river, I felt like I was on a cruise ship. We saw so many ships and other watercraft as well as all sorts of birds. The staff was friendly and helpful. Shout out to Chauffeur Justin. The breakfast buffet was better than average hotel offerings with delicious little egg soufflés, sausage, ham, a nice selection of pastries and other selections. Very nice Happy Hour offerings including a good Pinot Noir, salmon and cream cheese and fig and goat cheese snacks as well as cheese, crackers and fruit. The few cons would be that the mattress was not the most comfortable. Not uncomfortable, but not the memory foam mattress that I'm used to. I liked the soft feather pillow but my husband would have preferred something firmer. The breakfast bar only had apricot jam with no other choices.

Great inn, great city!
So much to see and do in this river city, and when you’re done, a great room to relax in. We enjoyed the wine hour in the lobby bar, with delicious appetizers using the local smoked salmon, before walking over to a nearby bistro for the best dinner.

Exactly as advertised, and more
We found this hotel on the internet, the pictures looked nice and the views were supposed to be nice. We found it to be even nicer than the online description! Room was beautiful, with a fireplace, balcony, and big soaking tub with louvered doors that provided a view out the windows. The room decor was extremely tasteful - everything fit and flowed. And no expense seemed to have been spared. Views of the Columbia river were wonderful. We saw a seal right outside our window, and enjoyed the ships passing right by our window. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We did an impromptu tour of Astoria in the vintage Rolls Royce. Highly recommended. Overall a wonderful experience. One of the most enjoyable and relaxing stays we have ever had.

Not the Same Hotel I Remember
The Cannery Pier Hotel was one of my top two hotels in Oregon. After the remodel, however, I found a decline in ambiance and attention to detail from a customer perspective. I personally liked the decor better BEFORE the remodel. The colors seemed stark and much less inviting. Since it was my 65th birthday, I brought a bottle of champagne. Now that there's a bar, the rooms are not stocked with wine glasses or a wine opener. Additionally, there used to be small microwave's in the room; no longer. The location of this hotel is utterly special; I hope they improve quickly -- the current price/night seems overpriced for the level of service.
