Impressed, yet Disappointed by Zero Soundproofing
We were both impressed and disappointed with the Campfire Hotel. Check-in and check-out were smooth and quick, and much better than some 5-star properties. One thing we did not like is that they charge your card $100 in advance for incidentals. Most hotels will do a temporary hold, but Campfire charged $100 and will refund it after 2-3 days, when housekeeping confirms there are no mini bar charges or damages. If they are going to do this, they should refund the same day, or next day at the latest.
This aside, the main room is very nice. Beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. The photo is from the hotel but our room looked exactly as shown, even down to the wallpaper, layout, and furniture. We booked a double queen bed room. The room has central heating and we did not see a way to adjust it, but the heat came on enough where it wasn't ever too cold, and it was 20 degrees outside. They also provide pour over coffee packs, makeup remover wipes, a hair dryer, pool towels on top of regular towels, a microwave and fridge, earplugs, and Beekman 1802 products, which were an unexpected treat.
Here's what we really did not like about the experience - the room had zero soundproofing and I mean zero. We heard entire conversations from people sitting by the fire, people next door, and people upstairs. This really became a problem when a certain neanderthal decided to rev his engine at 3am for around 30 minutes. We were about to call the front desk but we could actually heard the upstairs lady call and minutes later, she stormed outside to yell at him. The folks next to us were up pretty late and kept chattering until we yelled through the wall that we could hear everything they were saying, even with earplugs. The hotel also plays music until 10pm, which we didn't mind enjoying at the fire, but it was very audible when we were in our room. We did unfortunately get a room near a speaker and right adjacent to the fire, but they should really disclose this when booking. If I just had a long flight, I would not want to check into this hotel...
Another minor note is the bathroom needs some serious work. It was grungy, to say the least, and felt dated - stains on the wall, broken tiles, dirty grout, etc. The knob markings were wrong (H was cold and C was hot). There was little in between in water temperature - it was either deathly cold water or boiling hot water. The bathroom was also so tiny that it couldn't close with the towel mat on the ground.
Overall, if you are under 30 and don't mind loud noises, this a great budget spot. If you need to rest after a long trip and don't want to socialize, avoid this hotel!
