First time stay
Great spot! Friendly staff, the rooms are awesome and one of the most comfortable beds i’ve slept in. They are right on the water. I’d do the $15 valet service because parking is rough. The vibes are definitely laidback yet has a luxury to it. I do recommend using the earplugs they provide because they have noisy sea lion neighbors that bark often but i didn’t mind because i kinda love them. In the lobby they have a little bar and restaurant that offers some good food with beautiful views! Great location for walking around close enough to shops and food.

Overpriced, Noisy, No Hot Water, No Shower Pressure and Not Very Clean
The Bowline is extremely overpriced for the hotel experience delivered. We paid over $500/night for a river view room Saturday - Sunday during February (so off-season.) Pro: The view and location Cons: - No hot water and terrible shower pressure - Bathroom was not clean. Hairs and grim on back of toilet, soap/lotion dispensers were caked with product. - Rest of room was very dusty, with holes in the pillow cases - There was trash from the previous occupant in a bin - Extremely uncomfortable memory foam bed. We both woke up with sore backs. - Multiple yapping dogs in the room across from us and down the hall. Could be heard clearly in the room. Doors slamming. - It took 30 minutes standing on line to check in. - Staff did not ask how our stay was, and barely acknowledged us when we checked out. Do not recommend.

Weekend ruined
Great place if you don’t want to sleep at night. Sea lions barked LOUD and didn’t let up all night long. Booked two nights. Left after one night. Notice the refund policy says if you cancel w less than 7 days notice you’ll be charged one night’s stay. Weekend ruined.

Unique is definitely the right word...
Location: This is located right on the riverfront...actually built on a pier. Great views of the bay. Atmosphere: It is definitely a boutique hotel. The reservations desk, bar and restaurant are situated in an area about the size of a studio apartment. It's an industrial-type decor. Rooms: These are located on either the riverview or "trolley" side. They are not on the "spacious" side but are well-apportioned for the amount of room you get. Bathroom has a barn-door access, so if you require complete privacy when you are in there, it is compromised. Single sink with very limited counter space...your best bet would be to invest in a hanging toiletry bag. The shower is spacious; you could fit a full size tub inside of it. Water pressure is decent but hot water is on the slower side. Boutique-branded pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and body wash are supplied. The remainder of the room has a king bed and is rather comfortable. You are also given your choice of pillow: firmer or soft. The TV looks to be about 45" or so and is wall-mounted directly across from the bed. There is a desk and a small table with 2 chairs. Also provided is a hot-water kettle that will boil water in about 2 minutes (I gotta get one of these!), as well as do-it-yourself choices of teas and coffee. The room was clean. Noise level: For about 50 weeks out of the year, it would be serene. But for about 2 weeks (usually December), the sea lions are making their migration south. The males come to roost RIGHT UNDER THE HOTEL...the females are already in CA. They will howl and bark 24 hours straight, probably because there are no females to keep them quiet. It would be nice if they could carry a tune, but the hotel does supply earplugs. The area: We stayed 2 nights and Astoria is chock-full of unique places to dine and drink. If you are looking for McDonald's or the like, it's a bit of a hike.

Not as advertised
Such an aesthetically beautiful hotel, and amazing location and views. Very high end hip and contemporary. It held such promise. I was greeted by guy wearing a stained, stretched out Disney T-shirt & shorts who spoke to me while chewing a mouthful of food (seriously) and demanded to know if I needed valet parking and even though I said no, it was like he didn’t believe me. He mentioned valet like 4 times as if he didn’t hear me. Sorry to sound shallow but the appearance and attitude of this guy was so incongruent with the brand & look of the hotel it was jarring. Unprofessional and sloppy. I asked for ice and was told it was at the other end of the building which was fine, but there was no bucket, no container and when I (super politely) asked for one I was given a cardboard to-go container by the very harried and distracted bar staff while Mr. Stained Disney T-Shirt sat behind the welcome desk scrolling his phone. After dinner downtown I came back hoping to have a relaxed quiet evening & early bedtime (it was a Thursday) but instead was treated to listening to little kids shrieking & playing in the next room & a heavy cloud of pot smoke wafting into my room well onto midnight. It felt like a Motel 6 at a freeway truck stop. Never again.
