2 nights of serenity
Having recently hosted several family members and attended a destination wedding, my wife and I were ready for a couple quiet evenings at the beach. Zen Garden B&B is a tranquil setting 1 block to the beach and adjacent to Nehalem Bay State Park. Mrs. Smigel is a wonderful pleasant host who is available as need or otherwise unseen. The accommodations are clean and well furnished with a wonderful book selection. Breakfast is varied and custom prepared to accomadate many tastes. Mrs. Smigel's terms and conditions are thorough and in plain sight. Quite frankly, if I had the privilege of owning such a beautiful house, I wouldn't hesitate to have clear expectations. If you're looking for a quiet, mature, serene B&B, look no further. Thank you Mrs. Smigel
Incredibly Zen Weekend
My expectations in terms of hospitality has been forever changed by Mrs.S. She was incredibly kind and accommodating for our late arrival, and even made us personalized breakfasts at our selected time... her timing is IMPECCABLE. You want breakfast at 9:15 - you leave your room at 9:15 exactly and she's nowhere to be seen but your breakfast is fully set, hot and delicious. The hot bath was no joke. Relaxing in the beautiful garden in the hot bath with the cool beach winds was beyond relaxing. Jumping into our kimonos right after to enjoy the scenery was an added bonus and totally worth the mere $20. The thought and care she puts into her visitors stay is absolutely inspiring. Definitely going back! She is the sweetest lady running the cutest bed and breakfast gem in all of Oregon! Not to mention the pricing is much cheaper than most local places, and in pretty sure they don't make you a hot, fresh, organic, made-for-you breakfast every morning (even the day you leave). Thank you Mrs.S. for sharing your beautiful home!
Wonderful Stay in Manzanita
We have been to a few BnB's on the Oregon coast now, and this was an excellent one. The breakfast was fantastic; choosing from a variety the day before was fun, and the small room you eat in had plenty of sunlight coming through. The room was cozy and felt private. A short, maybe 30 second stroll to the beach, so although it is not beachfront, the coast is very close. The nearby state park was also a peaceful place for an easy walk. Had a pleasant conversation with the owner before leaving, a great way to end our trip.
We'll be back
Wanted a quiet place that we could easily walk to from the Manzanita airport. The location is secluded and peaceful, 1/2 block from the beach. Mrs. Smigel was a very pleasant hostess. She had a delightful setup of complimentary snacks and beer in our room and was accommodating to any request. We stayed in the Zen room; smaller than the Hiroshige Suite, but big enough and we really enjoyed breakfast in the "bistro"; nice surrounding windows. Delicious breakfast.
Reservation unjustly canceled by owner
Our reservation was confirmed, we were sent all the paperwork. Then I asked to see cancellation policy( it was not on the reservation paperwork, which is odd), and asked if it was possible for an early check in, as my mom at 88, has a nap mid day. Boom, the owner cancelled our reservation and said “ we cannot accommodate you, your reservation is now cancelled. Also, we noticed very odd remarks in the rental contract: - “please do not let anyone into the house, even if they say they are a relative. No one is allowed on the premises except for registered guests “No other people may be invited on the premises. Please initial.................... No appointments with professional people of any kind, including, but not limited to, massage therapists, realtors, health professionals or lawyers, may be scheduled on the premises. No meetings with any people, other than currently registered guests, may take place on the premises” Very strange verbiage here and Ms, Smigel is very odd. I would assume you are watched like a hawk on this property by her.
