If this is not on your bucket list – put it on this very second for an unforgettable adventure!! This is undoubtedly one of the most fun things that I’ve ever done! I had never heard of the Oregon San Dunes Recreation Area which is the largest sand dune area (40 miles) in North America. We made reservations for a group dune buggy ride. We arrived at the center which also has a miniature golf area, go-karts, a gift shop and restrooms. We had reserved spots and paid earlier. The check in was smooth and we waited for about 15 minutes while the first group unloaded. All 20+ of us boarded the Giant Dune Buggy, secured our belts and were ready to go! Our driver was a veteran driver and made the rollercoaster-like ride go as smoothly as it could be. He displayed great knowledge and understanding about the area – the camping sites, the staging areas for ATV rentals, the views, the way the sand moves constantly and fools you causing accidents – everything was narrated with a wry sense of humor. We raced up the hills and down to the beach where we sailed along to beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean before driving back to the staging area – a vast crater in the middle of the park. Up and down we went on the gigantic sand dunes whose contours you could see moving and changing even as the driver warned us about their shifting shapes. The hourlong ride seemed too short by the time we returned! Highly recommend doing this at least once in your lifetime!

My daughter had to talk me into taking the one hour Sandrail Tour. It was a BLAST! Our driver, JD, was the best. Very knowledgeable and safety oriented. There was 8 of us ranging from 9-69 years old, and we all loved it. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Very disappointed with our experience. We missed our reservation due to a police chase that ultimately resulted in a road closure, which was completely outside of our control. There were no alternate routes to get to Sandland Adventures from the direction in which we were coming from. We reached out hoping for some understanding or assistance, but there was no empathy or willingness to help with this unavoidable situation. Policies are important, but sometimes people should come before policy. A little compassion and flexibility in an unexpected circumstance would have gone a long way.

Can I say WOW?
We had so much fun with JD at the wheel. There were times I was sure we were going to die, but he brought us all back safely. We drove fast, went high, and flew down extremely steep dune faces. It was a blast.
