We did the one hour trail tour and boy it was amazing. Our guide was Clay and he was awesome. If we rented atvs ourselves we could never did what he did. Very safe but also super fun. Make sure you do the one hour ride and you won't be disappointed. Awesome experience
We did the Big Buggy Tour, Rick was our driver. Very experienced and knowledgeable about the area. We really enjoyed ourselves. Lots of scenic viewpoints and a few good drops. Our kids did the faster 30 minute tour and had a blast. Our tours overlapped so the lady at the front desk offered to commute our kids to the pick up spot. Greatly appreciated. We would definitely return.
Great fun riding in a sand dune buggy!
I scheduled this tour based on TripAdvisor reviews and was happy that I did so. Our friends from Oregon also went on it and gave me kudos for finding it. Clay was our driver. He was friendly and not too dangerous, but still fun. We had the perfect number for his car (2 kids in front with him, 3 in middle row, 3 in back row). I am 6'4" and was a bit nervous about the banging my head on the crossbar but you are tightly strapped in so it was a non-issue. Also, I did not notice any stress on my lower back (still in pain from whale watching wave hopping the previous day). We definitely preferred having a driver although you could rent ATVs or dirt bikes. I'd be a bit nervous about making mistakes while driving anyway. (minimum age is 14). Clay did a great job of dropping us down hills and going fast along the flats. Our only regret is settling for the 30 minute ride and not doing the 60 minute one! Even our friend who gets car-sick was fine and is planning a 60 minute ride in the future
Fun sand trails tour & mini golf
We decided to do the sand land sand trail tour which was one hour long. Our first choice was just to do a 30 minute ride, but those are not offered as often and due to our schedule we needed to go with availability. I hadn’t made a reservation because I didn’t want to be on such a strict time schedule, and being a weekday in September I didn’t think it would be that crowded. That being said, our six person super-size dune buggy was full. I tend to get motion sickness so I was a little concerned about the ride after reading the Tripadvisor reviews, but I felt fine. The first half of the ride you definitely feel the sharp turns and the mountains but then they drive along the coast on smooth sand so that helps if you do tend to have motion sickness. The sanding some cells are really beautiful and vast. I can’t imagine how busy it must be out there during the summer we’re on holiday weekends but our driver was very experienced and safe. It was a lot of fun and I would recommend it if you are near the Oregon dunes. We also signed up to play the miniature golf, but again due to time restraints we were only allowed to play about four holes- our mistake. The course is just OK -nothing spectacular, but I do wish we would have had time to finish the course. Check in for these events was easy and they have a gift shop with cute souvenirs.
I rated this a 1 and here is why. My family along with another family took a sandland tour. My 2 teenage daughters were very excited. We have never done a dune buggy ride before. This was going to be the highlight of our weekend trip. We were met with a driver who seemed very annoyed with us from the start. My 14 year old didn’t know how her helmet should fit (tight?looser?) The driver said “this kid doesn’t even know if her helmet fits her head, and this is who will be running our country next”. This seemed unhelpful as well as uncalled for. This was followed by his impatience when our group was trying to figure out the best seating arrangement for the dune buggy. He seemed equally irritated with our group and said we could take all the time we wanted but our ride would be shorter. I have to say, this made me upset and I said something to the driver. He apologized but my daughter and I had already lost our enthusiasm and excitement for the adventure. Now this is our memory.
