Prairie City

Show more info about Prairie City

Prairie City (population 1,080) sits on the edge of a vast grassland, surrounded by the Strawberry Mountains on one side and layers of ancient lava rock on the other. In the fall, the area’s lakes and rivers are popular with fishermen casting
for steelhead and mountain trout. It is an easy trip to the trailhead of the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness for excellent day or multi-day hikes or horseback trips. In the wintertime, this same area becomes a paradise for snowshoers, cross-country trekkers, and snowmobile enthusiasts. Prairie City sits on the Journey Through Time Oregon Scenic Byway and offers visitors several dining and lodging choices in its
historic main street area.

Eastern Oregon

Prairie City is located in Eastern Oregon, where miles of scenic byways, alpine wilderness, working cattle ranches and basalt canyons are still the place for explorers to make their mark.

Nearby cities are: John Day, Dayville, Baker City, and Burns.
