Located in a beautiful valley at the southern base of the Wallowa Mountains, Halfway has a picture-perfect setting and is just 35 miles from Baker City. Along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway All-American Road and near the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, Halfway is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Popular activities include hiking, rafting and jetboating, sightseeing, camping, fishing and simply relaxing. During summer, horse shows, rodeos and a farmers’ market fill the weekends. The Pine Valley Community Museum tells of the area’s mining, ranching and recreation history. In winter, the community comes alive with snowmobiling enthusiasts who enjoy the easy access from town to hundreds of miles of groomed trails and wide-open play areas.
