Condon is a Norman Rockwell-esque, small town that sits atop a high plateau just 38 miles south of the Columbia Gorge. In February, the entire town celebrates their “Nobel Laureate Day” honoring two local Nobel Prize-winning residents. Fossil, located just south, is a John Wayne movie set. Dig fossils at the high school or begin a tour of the John Day Fossil Beds area. Discover the Paleo Lands Field Center for regional natural history displays, maps, guides, and travel advice, with scheduled and custom trips for all ages.
