Multnomah Falls

Plummeting 620 feet, in two different sections, Multnomah Falls is the most-visited natural recreation site in the Pacific Northwest with more than 2 million visitors each year.

Fed by underground springs, the flow over the falls varies and is usually highest during the winter and spring months. Multnomah Falls offers one of the best places in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area to study geology exposed by floods. Six flows of Grande Ronde Basalt are visible in the fall’s cliff face, representing more than 400,000 years of geological history.

$20 parking fee or dangerous free parking option.

Be forewarned! If you want to visit Multnomah Falls by car, you must either park in the lot in the middle of the interstate, braving the left lane exit and re-entry, or pay the ridiculous $20 parking fee that is now being churched by the private Sasquatch Shuttle Service which leases the parking lot that’s right across from the Falls Lodge. The Falls, however, are still as lovely as ever.

    Crowded.

Very very crowded. The tiny parking lot was full and you had to go 3 miles back to take a shuttle. Even on this rainy very cold day! There is a concession stand, coffee shop, restaurant, and gift shop. Could not get a decent picture for all the people but a very beautiful waterfall not to miss.

    Amazing Waterfall

My husband and I stopped to see the falls on our way to our hotel. We parked on the other side of the highway and went across through an underground tunnel to the falls and gift shop. The falls are stunning and so high. I didn’t imagine they were that high when I saw pictures of it. The gift shop is full of beautiful souvenirs for anything in Oregon. Absolutely loved it. Would highly recommend stopping here.

Amazingly stunning falls. Easy to get to from Portland. Touristy but not annoyingly so. Great picture spot. Drive to falls from Portland is also stunning.

    Oregon Landmark

Multnomah Falls never disappoints. My son and I stopped on our way home from a trip up the Columbia River Gorge. It was a great time to visit the falls. The parking lot fills up during the summer months, but we went on March 1 and it was pretty quiet. The falls were roaring, with several small accessory falls, thanks to plenty of rain and snow in the preceding days. Gorgeous views, beautiful nature, and not too many people. I highly recommend going in the winter months.
