Nice, a little overpriced
We stopped here for lunch. They have a nice outdoor area, but was a little too cool to enjoy that. Our food was good, but seemed very expensive for what it was.

Pretty good, not great.
Kickstands was a pleasant restaurant where we ate dinner downtown Hood River. Both of us enjoyed the Pork Belly Curry which consisted of crispy pork belly confit, tomato curry, red lentil dahl, crispy chickpeas, fresh cilantro, serrano peppers, pickled red onion, and, on the side, grilled naan bread. Unfortunately, it tasted more like a chili than a curry. The sauce struck Cherry Wonderdog as having a red tomato base rather than curry. In fact, we were pretty sure there wasn’t any curry powder used in the cooking at all. Meanwhile, my pilsner beer – though refreshing and tasty – was served without foam despite my explicit request otherwise. For what it was though, our meal at Kickstands was pretty good, and the prices were correct.

Good food and coffee but a mixed message.
This place has great food and even better coffee. We're not big fans of dark roast as we want our full measure of caffeine without a bitter taste. KickStand has great coffee. One day I tried the avocado toast my husband was keen on the curry. My favorite dish was the Poke bowl which I had another day. The servings are plenty big. A comfortable space and friendly staff. We liked the looks of the bar cocktail list but never had a chance to get back in the evening. The only down note was that our last day we were sitting in the window overlooking the side street. Some of the staff or the landscapers were cleaning the gutter and half of the street with water from a hose. They were at it the entire time we were eating. This seemed contrary to the general vibe of the place which seemed eco friendly. I mentioned this to the counter staff and was told it was quite dirty after the snow thaw. A broom would have done as well, or just let it be. Potable water is too precious to waste like that.

Great Thai Salad
The food was great, as was the service provided by multiple servers. We brought our own bottle of wine - corkage fee was $15. The outdoor seating was adequate and mostly shaded, and the parking was tight. A good walking destination if you're close enough.

Great coffee and breakfasts!
Fabulous scrambled eggs and fruit and yogurt bowl! Nice outdoor eating area and easy nearby on street parking.
