Walter Scott is a small winery, founded in 2008 by partners Ken Pahlow and Erica Landon after years of living, studying and working within the Oregon wine industry. Our focus is to produce wines of elegance and purity, while conveying transparency of site and character of vintage. The winery is located in the Eola-Amity Hills just over an hour south of Portland, surrounded by some of the Willamette Valley’s most historic vineyards and overlooking the Cascade Range.

Excellent family winery
Be sure to book an appointment to taste their fabulous pinots! We really enjoyed sitting outside having a picnic lunch and chatting with Erica as she juggled the antics of Stew the Rooster, the family dogs and cat (Bob), and her darling daughter showing off her new dress. We came home with several bottles of these great wines, and if you are interested in getting off the beatin' path of the big producers, you should definitely consider a visit to Walter Scott before they run out of their best bottles/vintages later in the year.

Do not miss this winery!
We visited Walter Scott on our 3rd day. This is a fantastic winery run by a couple who are incredibly knowledgeable about the area, history and future of wine in this region. The wines, especially the chardonnays, are fantastic. Do not miss this winery when you visit the willamette valley!! If I could only have visited one winery, it would have been Walter scott.

Must visit up-and-coming winery
Husband and Wife team have accomplished a lot with so little time. Despite being so busy during the day, they took the time to give us a tour, answer our questions, reschedule our appointment etc. More importantly, the wines are EXCELLENT. Their vineyard focused pinots in the $45 range were in the top tier of value we sampled on our trip. For example, the 2014s are approachable today despite having the same fruit liveliness of other vineyards -- the reason is because the wines are so much more balanced! Their Chardonnay Reserve is fantastic. And we barrel tasted the 2015 Muertos and think that bottle will indeed sell out given our sampling of other premium labels in that price point. Just gracious hosts, great wines, and great prices. A winery to visit, and keep an eye on for the future!

Winemakers to watch.
Over the past few months on the Willamette Valley wine trail we have been hearing about how good Walter Scott wines are, and how Erika Landon & Ken Pahlow are brilliant wine makers. All true! A young couple that are dedicated and passionate about making the best possible wines and are happy to tell you their story, grape sources, and wine making while you taste their product. Unlike a lot of other WV wineries Chardonnay makes up over 40% Ken & Ericas' production, and what amazing Chardonnays they are. We tasted 3 Chardonnays and 3 Pinot Noirs - all beautifully made wines, but for me the Chardonnays were stand out. In my opinion we were tasting a future Montrachet and I want to be around when there is an old world/new world blind tasting which includes Walter Scott's Chardonnay. A definite must visit when in Oregon.

Yes, We Pick Early.......
Unexpected candor, grass roots, OJT winemaker Ken provided us with in your face unpretentious wine making. The tasting was all barrel tasting with very small and limited production. The wines weren't just good, they were stunning! Started with $20,000 from cashing in two retirement accounts Ken, Erica and artist Lucy uncovered the secret to happiness and success. The philosophy of not needing to "warehouse" or store wines. Rather, make them, sell them and drink them. You taste in the barrel/fermentation/storage room over a barrel. Ken seeks out each vintage and thiefs the wine from the barrel straight to your glass. If you are looking for a small producer, excellent wine, jeans, t-shirt, flip-flops and you are okay with an occasional and passionate f-bomb then you will enjoy this place as much as we did. It was great! You must check out the artwork from Lucy. It is inspiring.
