Just so good. The steak breakfast sandwich was just what I needed and the Rice Krispie treat was just what I wanted. Sweet location and sweet staff.
I went here recently with coworkers and ordered the green bean sandwich based on reviews I read. I am normally a meat eater, so ordering this was sort of taking a leap of faith. The sandwich itself was very good, not amazing, but quite good. I especially liked the soft boiled egg on top which seemed to make the sandwich. Overall, my issue is the price of the sandwich. For $12 it is just not a great value, when you can go to Eastside deli and get a great sandwich for $8. Would I go back here, yes I would, and I am sure it would be really good again, but for the price I feel there are better options.
What I read in reviews before I went: great food, off the radar, good people working with no non-sense attitude, basic atmosphere and surroundings. I would agree with all these evaluations. Went for lunch on a Monday, and there was a line around noon, but it moved quickly. Fleetwood Mac played on the speakers, and the noise level was kind of loud. Would have gone outside to sit at one of the two or so tables they had out of the sun, but they were doing construction across the street. This block is becoming a social node that I keep going back to ... Check 'em out!
You should go here just for the green bean sandwich alone: blanched green beans, soft boiled eggs, bacon relish, parmesan, and aioli on ciabatta. It's so difficult to eat but at the same time you won't care. In fact I'd love one right now but I'm across town and they're closed and now I'm sad!
This hole-in-the-wall sandwich shop is a local favourite -- while it's scrappy facade is an effective cover to keep tourists away. Order at the counter, take a seat and wait on your name to be called. Meat Cheese Bread serves up simple, fabulous and delicious sandwiches. Try it!
