Fantastic value for this lovely retro Motel
Built in 1958, this is a genuine retro motel. The neighborhood location is excellent. despite being on a local highway, it was surprisingly quiet. A one- minute walk away is a great cafe (Fortuna) and across the street from there, an excellent market. Convenient Portland public transportation is right there if you don’t have a car. The owner Hino is delightful. When I asked if my room was newly painted, she said it was done four years ago! There wasn’t a single scuff mark on the walls! She prides herself on keeping Viking immaculately clean, and it shows, thanks to her and her staff. Room amenities: basic but sufficient. There were packets of shampoo and soap bars, but no “travel-size” conditioner or lotion. Bed was comfortable, towels were soft. There’s a microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker (coffee is supplied in a little container). no luggage rack, but a large desk had plenty of room to place a suitcase. You cannot beat the economic value of this comfortable lodging in Portland!

Good place to stay
Charming staff made us feel very welcome. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Quite during the night. The AC kept the temperature at an OK level, but made quite a lot of noise. Location very good just a blokk from the tram stop so it was essay to get in to the city center (just $5 for an all day pass - a real bargain).

Sweet Place/Great Value
The kindest proprietors - small family owned = consideration to the customer is a priority. Even during COVID and an unexpected snow storm, they went above and beyond. It is a budget hotel so don’t expect luxurious items, but if you want clean, a very comfortable bed, a real coffee maker (that was the best), great water pressure, and a safe neighborhood, this is it. Pluses: walking distance to great markets (New Seasons and Fred Meyer), terrific coffee house (Arbor Lodge Roasters), directly across the street public transportation (get the Transit app and purchase a Hop pass across the street or get the Hop app), walking distance to quaint downtown, post office, and small restaurants, wonderful staff, insulated windows kept a below thirty degree weather at bay Minuses: WiFi didn’t always work on my phone but did on other devices - they worked hard to do all they could to make it work

Hope you don’t have friends
Better not have any friends in town. Because if you do and they stop by you will be kicked to the curb. told to vacate because had to many friends stopping by. After being here for 3 years for work. Won’t stay here again

Clean, comfortable, affordable
Room was clean, bed was comfortable, friendly service, price affordable. Nothing fancy, no breakfast with room. The room could use a few repairs and maintenance (chip in tub, cracked toilet lid, plugs wouldn’t stay in some worn electrical outlets). A good value!
