Ideally situated in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon’s revitalized West End neighborhood, Sentinel is located in two adjacent historic buildings that have been restored to their original grandeur and upgraded with luxurious modern touches following a $6 million renovation of all 100 guest rooms and four floors of meeting space, the integration of an inspirational art collection and a reinvention of the strikingly grand lobby. Named after its unique exterior architectural sculptures, Sentinel serves as a meeting place for the visionary thinkers, makers and doers who flock to this verdant, rain-soaked Pacific Northwest city for artistic and entrepreneurial inspiration.

Aging but fine
Aging 5 star, should be 4.5 or 4 star. There were some issues such as broken items in the bathroom, but no biggie. Bed was comfortable. On the smallish side. Employees are kind. Party time on Friday and Saturdays ( no noise issue, maybe because floor 1 is not there). Fast cleaning services. You can ask for a microwave--ran out when we asked. We got the worst possible room despite paying for a corner room. I was told there was construction, so our view was a wall.

It was really nice
It was really nice. I was only there one night and the room and service were impeccable. Valet was worth it to me, and I'd stay here again.

10/10 would go again
Great location middle of the city with lovely staff very friendly. Great stores right on the block as well as in the proximity that allowed us to do some luxury and unique shopping. Room was upgraded to executive suite using amex plat status very large, clean, and on the floor with executive lobby that had selection of snacks and drinks (mostly coffee and tea with waterloo sparkling water). No noise during the stay and very easy and convenient access to great restaurants.

AMAZING urban hotel
We travel constantly and all over the world. We have stayed at 30+ SLH hotels and there are some amazing properties. Sentinel ranks among our top-5 urban hotels, anywhere. TripAdvisor ranks this as the #16 hotel in Portland and I cannot fathom there being 15 better places to stay… or any at all. Firstly, the hotel has so much personality and a special elegance that is impossible to recreate from scratch. You can feel its history, from the lobby’s “BPOE” ceiling, to the second floor gym, which transports you to another time. The suites on the 6th floor are great (full floor skylight!) as is the special amenities room, with all sorts of unexpected treats. There is the wine hour, from 5 to 6pm, and the fresh fruit (local apples, etc). In the immediate vicinity you have the Hyatt Centric, the Ritz, the Moxy; these are fine properties, but none have this level of authenticity.
