We stayed for two nights and found the location to be very convenient in terms of parking and choices of nearby restaurants for dinner. Other than that, our room was old and tired with a very noisy air conditioner. The bathroom was NOT en-suite…it was down a common hall and the shower was also in another room off the same hall. All of the furnishings were tired and the exterior needs serious maintenance. No one greeted us and we had no contact with anyone other than the housekeeper during our stay. There are a lot of empty storefronts along Division Street which speaks to it being a neighborhood in transition.
This delightful little guesthouse ticked off all my boxes: clean? check. quiet? check. unique decor? check. thoughtful touches? breakfast? check. I reserved the Gao Xingjian room. One of two rooms in the finished basement and with an en suite bathroom. The basement means the room stays relatively cool and there is light via the casement window. Breakfast foods, snacks, coffee, and tea are always available in a kitchen that guests may use for meal preparation. And many places to sit and relax inside and out. The location is on the popular Division St. Many dining options and easy bus, bike, and taxi options. If you come with a car there is plenty of free street parking. The next time I’m in Portland I intend to stay here again.
We stayed at the Bluebird Inn on the second floor with an onsuite bathroom. We choose this location because it was close enough to our daughter. I found our room to be very clean, the bedding was nice and comfortable. Contact with the Innkeepers was easy and they were available to answer question. The refrigerator was well stocked with muffins, pasteries and bagels. Fresh coffee and clean linens and towels readily available. Access to free washer and dryer use. ** I saw a cleaning girl every morning and when she asked my input on how to let guest know to clean thier own dishes (even though it is in the welcome letter) I gave her my thoughts about a step by step note above the sink. (because there is a sanatizing pan and a dirty dish sign you assume you leave your things in the sink or dish pan.) And later when we got back form our day there was a small bouque of flowers and a hand written note thanking me for my input! I was so touched by this! We walked a 4 mile loop every morning and felt comfortable and safe. We highly recommend Jams on Hathorne for breakfast. The omelets are filled with the whatever you order in them, pancakes are huge, service is great. Be prepared for a wait but you can walk around (they text you 5 min in advance of your table being ready) We also had a dinner at Cibos next door which had delicious house made pastas freshest bread and amazing old style pizza, great atmoshere. The coffe places and pastries in walking distance are really good too. I met a couple people in the kitchen in the mornings who were all very pleasant and friendly. Masks were available by the front door which came in handy.
We had no air conditioning, no parking, no housekeeping service, no fresh towels, all in a room with a 7 foot ceiling that had about as much space as a prison cell. For the price we were charged ($175/night) we could have easily stayed at a three or four star hotel. My wife and I have been traveling for more than 20 years and this is by far the worst accommodations we have ever experienced.
The Guest Home was in a Wonderful Location That was very convenient and close to the city, yet very quite and safe. We parked on the street and had no issues finding a spot. There was a Drive way we Temporarily parked in to Unload after a long drive. The room itself was small but very cozy and relaxing. The room was Downstairs and included a desk and lamp, A closet and Two Nice Cotton Robes. The Lines were Warm and High Quality. We never ran into another Guest so it was like we had it all to ourselves. I enjoyed the Cute Bathrooms With a Hot and Cold Faucet. The Artwork and Furniture in the home was lovely and truly brought the Experience all Together. This Home is a Fantasy and absolutely Darling. The Breakfast Buffet was wonderful. The Pastries where Delicious and the Fruit Fresh. We got a Great nights sleep. The stay Truly made our Portland Experience, and Hopefully will Return Again soon.
