Not deluxe, unfortunately
Gosh, I am surprised to see all the glowing reviews. Maybe something dramatic has changed within the past 2 or so years. Here is a review I wrote on Yelp (which seems to have more reviews in line with mine) for our stay in December 2023... Overall pretty mid. We chose this location for proximity to someone we know in Portland. (Stay: December 2023 - there is no drop down option for anything before October 2024 so you'll just have to trust me on this one) BOOKING/CHECK-IN: I wasn't part of the booking process but I stayed with my elderly parents. The room apparently was advertised as a triple. We walk in and there is one bedroom with a full/maybe-queen-size bed, and a couch. I guessed (correctly) that the space for the third person is the pull-out couch. My parents were surprised that the pull-out wasn't already prepared. We had to move furniture around and set it up ourselves. There was no extra bedding/sheets so we had to ask the front desk for sheets and a pillow. The pull-out was... not great. Saw another review with photos of zipties and duct tape holding it together. Ours was thankfully not that bad but it definitely wasn't much better. The mattress (since we didn't have it already prepared) was stained and generally a little gross. The area behind/underneath the pull out was certainly not cleaned recently. There was a pretty intense dip in the middle and the first night I had a hard time sleeping since it was uncomfortable. We asked for a third room card as we were 3 people staying in the room. We only got 2, which ended up not being an issue since we were all together the whole visit but still a mild annoyance that they could not provide us with 3 cards despite being advertised as a room for 3 people. TEMPERATURE/ELECTRIC/WIFI: Wifi spotty, unsecured. Was generally fine but glad I didn't have to do any work here. There is a thermostat that claims it's pretty toasty but in reality it is very cold, even to my parents who tend to keep the thermostat low in winter. The lights flicker and one of the lamps straight up doesn't work, even after checking it was plugged in and the plug did work. BATHROOM: The bathroom is attached to the bedroom and does not lock from the inside. Having to walk through the bedroom to access it means if you were staying on the pull-out couch you'd have to bother whoever is trying to sleep in the bedroom. There is no blower, but there is a window... but the window does not open. The bathtub has a weird valley running in the middle of it, meaning the floor of the tub is not flat and feels unsafe to stand in especially with water/soap causing a more slippery surface. The shower drain does not drain very well. I was definitely concerned about my elderly parents using the tub/shower. Heck, I myself was worried! ACCESSIBILITY: The hotel has stairs first thing and no visible elevator/ramp to get in once you have entered the doors. Edit: On our way out I saw a small sign that indicated there was an accessible ramp or elevator of some sort to get into the lobby, but it was not obvious and you'd have to get someone from inside to let you into the accessible door. No bars in the bathroom to hang on to - of course no bars in the slippery and not-flat tub either. RESTAURANTS: There are two restaurants (that are essentially the same): Driftwood and Gracie's. Driftwood Room is more of a dinner/bar place. My parents said it was nice but crowded. Both places are popular as there were always people coming just for the restaurants. Gracie's was fine, but also busy. The front desk recommended making a reservation and they were right. OTHER: Other reviews also mentioned a resort fee and other fees. I was not the one paying so I didn't see the bill but my parents definitely complained about all the unexpected extra fees that certainly didn't make sense given the state of the room. Overall if you're looking for a place to stay in Portland, I don't think this is it, unless you specifically want this location. It was a relatively walkable distance to the downtown area and for us, very nearby the folks we were visiting. I saw another review that said this hotel was "catfishing" and I would have to agree.

Hotel deLuxe deserves its name
The Hotel deLuxe is in the perfect location for attending a Portland Timbers match. Short and safe walking distance with a selection of good eateries in the area. I loved the Hollywood vibe of the hotel, from the overall decor to the movie themed floors with black & white Hollywood enlargements. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Free parking a block away is a huge plus in Portland. And the Gracie's brunch was a perfect ending to our weekend.

Great Hotel Staff
Driftwood dining: I visited recently for my partner’s birthday, and sadly, the service left me very disappointed. It seemed like there was only one server working that evening, and when I asked for something, her response was, “I am really busy right now,” in a very rude tone. As a sensitive person, this really hurt me and brought me to tears. Instead of enjoying the evening and celebrating my partner’s birthday, I ended up feeling upset and distracted. Hotel itself has AMAZING staff. Great service for the stay. Gracie's was again GREAT! Highly recommend Gracie's

Quiet lovely hotel away from the noise & close to great coffee
Staff, accommodations and location. Staff very personable and offered great suggestions for places to dine and visit. The hotel’s staff made the biggest difference regarding our stay because they were very welcoming and helpful during our two night stay. Although our friends noted that their bed was too soft for them, we found our beds very comfortable and supportive for a good night‘s sleep. Hotel was quiet, also, with no noise in hallways. The interior of the hotel has photos of old time film actors from the old movies, which we used as a basis to quiz each other on our knowledge about the older films. Location of this hotel is just outside of very busy downtown, but Portland‘s layout makes for very easy access to restaurants and other activities. For us, a 20-min max walk to Mother‘s Bistro and Naito Pkwy to cruise along the Willamette River was not a problem at all. And Powell‘s Books and other closer activities are only ten minutes of a healthy walk. The site also has a parking garage (extra fee per night) right across the block from the hotel. Super Joy coffee is but a block away and Barista Bradley serves the best coffee we have tasted (we each agreed) at a good temperature for drinking when it is served. Good quality chocolate used for my mocha, too. The hotel onsite dining is limited, offered only on Saturday and Sunday, but the bar holds Happy Hour from 4-6 pm. The front desk does offer a few light snacks and drinks for purchase. Overall, we were pleased to stay at this hotel and would return.

Comfortable and friendly boutique hotel
The only concern my friends had was that the bed was a little too soft for them. But the beds for two of us in our room were fine, although we did notice they were more comfy than our beds at home. We slept great. Very much enjoyed the kind and welcoming staff at the front desk and general staff with whom we crossed paths during our stay. Front desk staff also remembered who we were despite several guests staying at the hotel. Parking is convenient in the hotel garage next to the hotel. Although located in a quieter location across from immediate downtown area, the hotel’s distance does NOT compromise access to the City’s wonderful shops. Staying here is a great opportunity to get one‘s steps added during the day. Super Joy coffee spot a block away serves some of the best coffee we have had anywhere!
