August 14, 2025Vacationer790023A Hidden Gem in Hines/Burns – The Pine Mill House
took my parents on a sightseeing excursion to Southeast Oregon to visit Malheur Wildlife Refuge, the Alvord Desert, Steens Mountain, Diamond Craters, and more. We used The Pine Mill House as our home base, taking day trips from there. This bed and breakfast was a wonderful find in the Hines/Burns area. Roger and Shani are amazing hosts, and the historic mill has such a fascinating story, which they share beautifully with their guests. The breakfasts were delicious, and Shani even adapted some dishes for my father, who is diabetic. The property has four very comfortable, charming rooms. I stayed in one where the bathroom was across the hall, but it was my own private bathroom, and it truly felt like it was part of my room—so don’t let that deter you from booking. I’ve stayed in local hotels before, and this is by far my favorite place to stay in the area. They even offered a 24/7 breakfast bar a multi-night discount, which were added bonuses! Nice job.

Eastern Oregon Delight.
We loved this place. The old building has been redesigned as a bed and breakfast thoughtfully and with attention to detail. Our room, the Lodgepole Pine Room, is casually elegant and so very comfortable. The hosts/owners, Roger and Shani are personable and very helpful. The breakfasts are sumptuous and delicious. The location is great for exploring the area. We focused on the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, a gem.

One of a Kind Property!
If you do not like history, uniquely lovely and comfortable rooms, a delicious breakfast, and the nicest possible hosts…this may not be the place for you. But, if you like any of those aspects in a true bed and breakfast inn, you will love the Mill House. The hosts, Roger and Shani, are beautiful people who love sharing the history of the property with their guests and, in general, showing kindness and friendliness to their guests. The tour that they gave us of the inn was awesome, as was hearing of their future plans for the inn. For me, the highlight was seeing the vault room and hearing of their plans for it. Overall, their hospitality sealed it for us. We had a fantastic stay at the property. Our only regret is that Burns/Hines is so far from our home, otherwise we could see ourselves visiting frequently!

Warm hospitality, comfort and delicious breakfasts.
The Mill House is an historic building lovingly restored and remodeled as a bed and breakfast inn. Part of a former lumber milling complex, the inn is chock full of interesting memorabilia from a bygone era. More importantly, the rooms and the inn’s common areas have been thoughtfully designed for the comfort and entertainment of guests, including a full size pool table in the main common area. The breakfasts during our three stay were scrumptious, and the hosts, Shani and Roger, are a generous fun couple. Highly recommended.

A wonderful experience in every way; highly recommend.
Our small group of friends booked the 4 rooms of this B&B to act as our home base during a birding trip. We could not have been more pleased. The rooms themselves are beautiful and comfortable, very clean and well-organized. The common shared spaces were welcoming and interesting (with all the historical items and local lore), although we didn't have much downtime in which to enjoy them. The home-cooked breakfasts were delicious and varied and we definitely didn't go hungry! I especially appreciate Shani being able to accommodate our request for an earlier breakfast time for our entire group so we could begin our birding drives. The use of the dining room space with microwave/fridge/dishes and snacks was so helpful. It's obvious that each detail of this B&B has been designed with the guests' comfort and enjoyment in mind. These hosts know what they are doing. I hope to be back some day and highly recommend the Hines Pine Mill House for couples, groups, and families. What a find! A special thanks to Roger for his assistance with my vehicle problem before we hit the road to head back home.
