Dufur is a small, rural agricultural community that’s striving to preserve its local history through buildings, museums and festivals. Dufur’s location is close enough to metropolitan populations (2 hours from Portland) to allow “city dwellers” the opportunity to experience some of what rural Oregon has to offer. Visitors can see the vast night sky with all the stars, walk the Barlow Trail, step back in time by experiencing old-time farming practices at the annual Threshing Bee, and visit an old-fashioned “Hometown Christmas” celebration each year that celebrates small-town hospitality with crafts and a lighted tractor parade.

The local Living History Museum preserves and shows rural heritage of early farmers and local settlers. It has a blacksmith shop (which works during the Threshing Bee), a local schoolhouse (completely furnished), a log cabin, quilts and more.Dufur is close to the Mt. Hood National Forest, the Deschutes River, Shearer’s Falls and White River park.
