Great place to sample flavors of Japan
We ate at the bar in this popular place. Service was prompt and friendly. Beef tataki was so tender and flavorful. We shared two Maki rolls. Sky Diver and Darru - both really interesting combinations of seafood and other flavors. A busy spot but not noisy, on ground level near the creek. Reasonable prices for the quality of the food.

Everything was great but our server made our experience amazing!
Stopped in late on a Sunday while passing through Ashland on a road trip. A friend who lives locally recommended Kobe and joined us as well. Our server was so kind about us coming in late and was a perfect host. Friendly, knowledgeable, had excellent timing and great recommendations. She did not rush us but made us feel at home. Food was gorgeous and a much welcomed flavor fest after eating road snacks all day. The offerings from the bar looked great and my non alcoholic beverage was such a treat. It's refreshing to have such beautiful options for a non drinker! Finished with creme brulee trio and listened to the creek flow. A pleasant experience all around. Our server is really who made it so enjoyable. Thank you

Sushi is good quality but not dependable for locals for take out anymore
Biggest issue with Kobe is that it is entirely unpredictable when you can get a take out order- so as of spring 2022 absolutely do not plan on being excited for take out sushi. You could call and they will tell you they are prioritizing people who are coming to eat in the restaurant. And they change their willingness to serve take out customers at a whim. This has happened to us three times now. As a local it’s been frustrating- eat there for years, support them through the pandemic and then little flexibility now.

A fantastic bookend for a long road trip
My family recently took a road trip to California from Portland. We stopped in Ashland both ways to stay the night. On the trip over we discovered Kobe. We were going to try to take out and go back to our room. However, the space and the received reception led us to dine on premise. We had a splendid time. The service was warm yet efficient and the food was exceptional. We all expressed a desire to be able to eat more. We decided to dine there again on our way back. The experience was the same if not warmer due to a vague familiarity from the last visit. The same server took care of us and remembered this traveler's dietary restriction. We had a wonderful time and will be back.

Excellent sushi...
Kobe remains a fine purveyor of raw fish, and has excellent other food, such as the tremendous short ribs (the broth is amazing). But one caution: The tempura is, frankly, not as good as I can do at home. It was thick batter, more like pancake batter than true tempura covering, which should be delicate and crispy. I cannot explain this ghastly lapse in an otherwise fine experience so have at it with the rest of the menu, but avoid the tempura!
