Day Use CLOSED
On July 8, went to have a picnic at the Day Use area, and was very disappointed because it was CLOSED. No notice on website to let people know.

Great place to pitch a tent and play in the river
Campground is very well-maintained, friendly, and right by the river. Fire grates, water, outhouse and showers are provided. Fishing's not that great, however.

Very tough, challenging disc golf course
Want some good exercise and have a great time. Try the Whistler's Bend Disc Golf Course. I played it with the President of the Louisiana Disc Golf Association. He's played many courses around the country and found this most fun and challenging.

Fun Park!
Campsites were very nice. It's right on the river and has disc golf. Would be great for a family or friends camp trip!

Decent campground and river
We stayed in August, but on a rainy weekend. I had read previous reviews that said they'd cut down a lot of trees and the campground was too open. I was worried that that meant it would be dusty and ugly, but it wasn't. I understand why they cut the trees down, what with the heavy snows the last two years and safety. But it does mean that if you're in the middle parts of the upper campground, your spot has no privacy between the one next to it. The edge spots are much nicer and you back up to the river and more trees. But the spots were otherwise good. We walked the trail along the river to the day use area and played along the river, watching a lot of people rafting by. The area could have been a little cleaner. We saw the camp hosts' spot but rarely saw them. The bathrooms were decent but we didn't use the showers, so can't attest to them. We did drive through the lower campground and personally, I think the upper one is nicer. But that depends on the type of camping you're doing. The yurts looked nice as well. We had called ahead of time to ask about having fires, and were told we could not. Upon arriving, it was clear that wasn't true. Reason for the 3 stars: the park could have been cleaner and there really wasn't much else to do. Unless you're there for floating the river or the disc golf course, you'd have to drive out to have any activities.
