Astoria Scandinavian Heritage Association (ASHA) was responsible for design and construction of the park and gifted the park to the City of Astoria and its residents and visitors on June 17, 2022.
The park celebrates the cultural heritage of Nordic and Scandinavian immigrants who came to Oregon’s North Coast in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Developed and refined with community input, the park features a large plaza with a Midsommer pole, interpretive signage, granite pillars for each of the five Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland) and a well-planned and accessible layout. Trolls are a large part of Nordic myths and folklore, and there are 6 troll sculptures located in the park. Each troll in Astoria Nordic Heritage Park has its own story. You can hear these stories by scanning the QR code next to Olle the troll for links to the Troll Tales book (pdf) or audio playlist. These are also available on ASHA's website.
