Shipshape Space: Friendly, Gorgeous and A Memorable Memorial Day Weekend
I cannot say enough good things about our KOA or recommend it enough.
The hosts and groundskeepers are professional, available, competent, friendly. Upon check in there was a courteous fellow there to help us back in and get situated. Electric and water are immediately on site.
There is a camp cafe that does delicious biscuits and gravy. There is a common room
They create an interactive environment with well-organized ice cream socials and dinners. The tickets are on adorable playing cards. They recently installed Frisbee golf cages. There are also horseshoes, a children’s playground, corn hole. We have thrown flags and spun poi on the large lawns. There is also a basketball hoop and a tennis net. When we want to hunker down in our RV that is good too. Our site has an ample, clean fireplace, a freshly painted picnic bench. There are porch swings, two seated rocking chairs.
Its surveillance is unassuming but thorough, which makes us feel very safe. Their laundry room is clean with a little bookshelf and prayer requests box. The washers and dryers get the job done beautifully. Their general store is very comprehensive with food, drinks, repair supplies, RV supplies, souvenirs, local oddities, toys.
There is a lovely uphill hiking trail on the eastern boundary. There is a winding path and a more challenging steeper path, both of which lead to a clearing at the end of the path with a picnic bench. There are also several scenic rest points with benches along the way. See if you can find the Sasquatch!
I have heard complaints that there are spiders and I have seen them, sure. That said, there are few to no other insects (e.g. mosquitos, ticks, ants). There are adorable banana slugs. The spiders are non-venomous and cute. So, use common sense: don’t mess with them, they wont mess with you. You’re never more than a few feet from a spider anywhere. This is nature. Don’t be a wimp.
Speaking of critters, there is a spacious dog park with seating for pet-parents.
The central restrooms are shipshape and in good order. Toilet paper is always available. Showers are safe and clean. Electric Type B outlets make for easy appliance use.
The dump station is spacious, easy to use, hygienic, well-designed and in good order. There are a pair of dumpsters that are supervised and maintained very well. Cordial and fast-working mowers, weed-whackers, pesticide-spray, gravel roads that are kept up.
Location is easily accessible to Devils Lake, Gods Thumb, Lincoln City, D River, Safeway and the strip.
