Located just south of Steens Mountain, in the rural town of Fields is the home of The Fields Station. A cafe, motel and convenience store that offers many amenities. The motel has four different motel units with varying levels of amenities. Reservations are strongly suggested.

While in Fields, you can enjoy one of the famous, ultra-thick milkshakes in the cafe. The cafe also offers breakfast, a full espresso menu, delicious hamburgers and french fries.

Gas, diesel and propane are always available during store hours and there is also a liquor store.

Good food horrible customer service

We booked this hotel and per the check-in time we skipped other things to make it before 5:00. Website stated check-in from 3:00 to 5:00 We arrived at 4:00 and we're told our room was not ready. I let them know we wanted to order food and she said our room would be ready by the time we were done with our food. We actually skipped local Hot springs in order to get there at the time that they specified. After traveling from Bend Oregon we needed to use the restroom. We were told to use the restroom out on the road. When entering the restroom everything seemed clean until I lifted the lid and found that apparently someone had been ill and splattered all over the back of the toilet. I have used many pit toilets in my years as a horse person and never encountered something that disgusting. When we ordered our food and I mentioned the condition of the toilet I was told her husband I cleaned it that morning. I replied the area was clean but the toilet was not. I thought they might want to know since they are sending all their customers out to use it. Her reply was you know it's a pit toilet right ? The she said when my husband was a marine he s*** and a lot worse places than that and I shouldn't be complaining. I wasn't complaining just thought they might want to know the condition of their bathroom. Well it went downhill from there. At around 4pm we noticed the person cleaning our room was done. I went to the owner and said I'm sorry I know you're busy cooking but it looks like our room is done. She replied we will let you know when it's ready. So we had to sit outside and endure all the flies by the time we realized how bad they were there were 20 flies in our car. We sat on the front porch in front of what we thought was our room we were told it was not and asked to move. The windows were covered with spider webs and dead insects and spider webs all around the small tables on the porch. We finally were given the key to our room at 5:00 p.m. obviously punishing us. The inside of the room was clean the beds were comfortable but the shower curtain rod needs to be replaced with the curve type because it blows in and sticks to you while you're showering. The toilet kept cycling through the night. We wanted to let them know but after the previous experience we wanted the least amount of contact with the owner as possible and just get the hell out in the morning. We traveled to peacock open minds and on the way stopped at a small campground and it was amazing how much cleaner the toilet there was. We met one of the campers and were not surprised to hear that the owners of Field station have a reputation for having to watch everything that you say. They are obviously not happy with their lives and should sell the place and seek other careers. When people stay there they don't have any choice because there is only one other motel in the area and they are always booked. It's kind of scary being out in the middle of nowhere and having to walk on eggshells because she don't know how they are going to react.

BS cancellation policy - very onerous

A little editorial comment on the Fields Station. The rooms that we stayed in (on a scale of 1 to 10) was a 6 or 7. The meals that they serve are quite good. We had breakfast on the first day. When we returned to pick up our vehicles, we had a good lunch! The problem is that the policy that they’ve implemented for cancellations is quite onerous. The thing you see is a 48 hours cancelation policy but then it says below that during "hunting season" there's essentially no cancelation. So when's hunting season? Hunting season for them is August-December. I tried canceling an extra room 1 month before we arrived to no avail. I pointed out that I made the booking online through their web booking agent. They said it's in the cancelation policy fine print. I pointed out that there's no dates specified and that someone would have to phone them to learn their definition of "hunting season". They said "pound sand" and charged my card. This is totally BS.

BAD EXPERIENCE

Strategy to pay more, this hotel canceled my reservation at the last minute for to pay more for another room. I do not recommend the customer service of this hotel, I was ready for my vacation and because of this unresolved problem, they changed my entire schedule

Great place for everything!

There is just so much to do out there and it isn’t a conventional spot to stop at. You have at least four local hot springs, some you can go into, some you can’t . You have the Steens, Pueblos and Trout Mountains. There is bird watching, Herpetological interests, rockhounding, ATV riding, hiking, shooting, hunting and fishing.

Don’t do it!

Used to go here off and on and it was well run and comfortable. Not since a new owner took over. Now customer “service” is nonexistent. $95 a night for a room that we found pretty well clean, except for the multiple spider nests and accompanying dead assorted winged critters in our room were disgusting. When I complained about our arachnid roommates, the owner and her assistant felt it’s merely “the desert environment” and with condescending attitude told me they would clean them while we were out. Didn’t completely happen. $6 gas with $4.50 fuel available 10 or so miles down the road, air conditioner so old it couldn’t keep the room even close to cool. No wifi or microwave. We made sure she didn’t get one more nickel from us.
