Clean and Quiet
Great place to stay! The room was a bit dated but was super clean and quiet. The view of the beach & ocean was fantastic. All the amenities were there (fridge, microwave, shampoos & soaps) and they had the most comfortable bed I’ve slept in at any hotel. Staff was helpful and friendly especially the manager (Lance?). Kudos to housekeeping for the well kept room.

Bulldoze it. Build something new
Stayed in this hotel several times over the years, including last month, and there's been a sharp decline in amenities, cleanliness, and staffing in the past few years. Many of the rooms are in disrepair, the staffing levels are critically low, and I'm honestly not sure why it's even still open. The hotel sits on prime real estate with commanding views of the ocean. I pray that they knock this thing down and build a new mid or upper tier resort. It's becoming a blight on Elizabeth St. I can't think of a reason to recommend staying here. There are many other better options not too much more expensive in Newport.

Don't stay here!!
We complained about the first room they put us in. The seals on the windows were broken and we couldn't see the ocean. Our second room, very honestly, was the dirtiest room I've ever occupied and the window seals were broken in that room as well. You can see in the photo how very dirty the furniture was. A bad experience. After we got home, we found they had given us a $50 credit on the card. You know, it just didn't make up for the icky feeling we had in that room. We won't go there again....I promise!

Stay elsewhere
They are obviously going bankrupt. The roo mas filthy, everything was closed. People were nice but skeleton staff. Crappy deal, not worth it at any price. At 18th occupancy, they couldn't figure out how to give me a late check out. No one left here knows anything. Stay elsewhere.

A Place That's Seen Better Times
I honestly don't know how to do this review. We've stayed at the Shilo here in Newport before. It is a great location right on the beach with a long staircase down to the sand. Our room was rather quaint with the usual - queen bed, two bed tables, small writing desk/chair, credenza with dresser, microwave & ; mini-fridge and a nice cafe table with two chairs right at the window where we could watch the ocean. But . . . the property has seen better days. The desk clerks are a bit rough around the edges; the place badly needs a facelift; the room furniture shows wear (not inoperable but worn); the rooms are a bit small for the amount of furniture in them; and the Internet doesn't work. At one time Shilo Inns had breakfast. No longer. I was pretty disappointed in the condition of the Shilo. However, on a very positive note, on checking out, the manager apologized profusely about the non-operational Internet and discounted our bill by 10%. Nice of her. Would I stay there again? At the prices and the availability of other nicer properties probably not.
